When I got back, it was virtually time for me to leave for my lecture. I hopped in the shower, had a bite to eat, and set out again.
Kate was already sat there when I arrived, so waved me over.
"So." Kate began, as I got my paper and pen out my bag. "What about this Adam guy, then?"
I shoved my bag down by my feet. "Oh, I saw him this morning." I said.
"You did?" She asked, surprised.
"Yeah. I went on a run and so did he. We ended up bumping into each other."
"Since when did you run?" She asked, taken aback.
I shrugged. "I felt very energised this morning."
"Fair enough." She said. "So did you, like, run... together?"
I looked at Kate, who had a big smirk on her face. "Yes, we ran together." I said flatly.
She clapped her hands together, her eyes bright. "Oh my god!" She said. "I knew it!"
"Knew what?" I asked, trying not to laugh at Kate's antics.
"Adam so has a thing for you." She said.
That time I did laugh. "Kate, we've only just met. I don't even know him, and he certainly doesn't know me."
Kate sighed, clearly expecting a much better reaction out of me. "He's cute, though. You should definitely pursue."
"If you think he's so cute, then why don't you pursue?" I asked.
Kate rolled her eyes. "He has eyes for you, Millie, not me."
I scoffed, just as Peter walked in. Peter was another one of my lecturers, who somehow got mixed up in the Haydn business a couple of years ago and saw me use my powers. Last year, I worried that it had been too much as he didn't want to talk about it, but eventually he wanted to know everything about what happened. I'd told him, and it seemed that after that, he was back to his old self. He rarely brought it up, though. If he did bring it up, it was usually only a brief comment or reference to the situation.
"Morning, girls." He said, a big pile of books in his hand. He dropped them down onto the desk at the front.
"Hi, Peter." I said, as did Kate. He didn't know about Kate having strange healing powers- there was absolutely no need for him to know about it, and I knew that Peter didn't really want to be involved in anything Argent related. It would mean explaining Doctor Geralds, and I definitely didn't want to go into that. Kate knew that Peter knew, though, and I had my suspicions that Peter knew that Kate knew about me.
Other students started to arrive then, and so a few moments later, Peter was talking about technical stuff that I always found difficult to comprehend unless I took extensive notes. About half way through, Irina came in and took a seat at the front. Quite often her and Peter would share lessons.
After the lecture, we had a tutorial.
"Shit." I muttered, rummaging through my bag after we'd sat down in the classroom. Everyone else was taking their seats, too.
"What's up?" Kate asked.
"I left my memory stick at home." I said. "And it's got my work for today on it."
"That better not be an excuse, Millie." Peter said, having overheard my conversation. I looked up, only to see that he had one of those displeased teacher looks plastered on his face. "You know this counts for fifteen percent of your grade."
I exchanged a glance with Kate. "Fuck." I whispered when Peter had his back turned. "What do I do?"
Kate looked at me as if I were stupid, narrowing her eyes. "Dude, you literally have super powers." She whispered. "You could do that lightning thing and be back here in two minutes."
I mean, she had a point. I could. I'd never really used my powers to do things like that, however this felt like an emergency. I put my bag down, and got up.
"Just going to the toilet." I said to Peter, who was obviously suspicious of where I was going.
He nodded, but looked sceptical. I smiled at Kate as I walked out, and then hurried outside to the back of the uni where nobody would be looking.
Then, I summoned the electricity and charged it through my body, letting it build and build until I felt like I could explode if I let it out. But, just before that could happen, I jumped.
I shot upwards, the ground leaving my feet at incredible speeds. I was in the sky, my whole body fused with the lightning. Time had slowed on Earth, but up here, everything was working in overdrive. Including me. I allowed myself to snake across the clouds, my arms reaching through the sky until I saw my house. I plummeted back down to the ground, landing light on my feet- it's safe to say I'd practised my landings quite a bit over the past year.
I approached the door, then realised I'd forgotten my house keys. The others would be at uni, so there was nobody to let me in. Still, who needed house keys when you had elemental powers?
I reached out to the metal lock, and then to the latch of the door, before pushing it downwards. The door clicked open, and I hurried inside.
It had been a minute since leaving the uni, meaning I still had plenty of time. I ran upstairs, my body still full of electricity and energy, and grabbed the USB stick from my desk. Then, I barely thought about fusing with the lightning when I stepped outside- in seconds, I was up in the air again. It always was easier the second time, especially when the currents were still circulating my body.
I landed back in the car park, ran inside and waited a moment to let my breathing settle down a bit before walking back into the classroom.
I smiled at Kate, and held the memory stick up. "Found it." I said.
I then looked at Peter, who gave me a dubious look.
"In my pocket." I added, and then sat down, feeling buzzed.

I got a good grade for my work, which I was pleased about, although I could tell that Peter was sceptical about the fact that I'd seemingly found my USB in my pocket after making it quite clear that I'd left it at home. He knew I'd used my powers somehow, even if he didn't quite know how. It didn't help the fact that I remained fidgety the entire lesson, the remnants of lightning still eager to get out of my system. Kate kept having to tell me to keep my leg still.
Kate and I were just walking out the classroom when we bumped into David, who was standing there with his arms folded, seemingly amused.
"Any particular reason as to why there was a sudden surge of electricity about an hour ago?"
Kate and I exchanged a glance.
"I wouldn't know what you're talking about." I said. "But if I were to hazard a guess, I might say that somebody left their homework at home and had to go and get it in the space of two minutes so as not to arouse too much suspicion."
There was a moment of silence, but then Kate burst out laughing. That then caused me to laugh, and then David. He just shook his head.
"Did you come down here just to tell me off?" I asked.
"No, I need to see Peter about a lecture tomorrow." He said.
"Oh." I said. "Well, we'll see you later, then."
He put a hand up as Kate and I walked away.
