Just something I made for a contest/project in school. And required us 500 words for short stories or flash fiction.

"I'm an angel. Flying thro–pfft!" A plastic got into the angel's face as she was singing and had to take it off. By the time it was gone, a plane appeared in her view. "Ahhh!" She frantically flapped her wings to fly and managed to escape its path.

She glared at the plastic in her hand and lit it on fire. She decided to visit the land and fly down. Landing at a park, she immediately saw someone familiar throwing their candy wrapper. It was carried by the wind and was sure to get in someone's way.

She sneezed and clenched her hands, thinking of how the air was no longer healthy. She stomped her way to the girl and snapped her fingers. Her surroundings turned white. The girl flinched and looked around til her eyes landed on the angel. She gasped, but saw that the angel wasn't happy.

"What's your name?"

"Hawani."

"Do you know what you just did?"

"I-I don't know."

"I've seen you. Same person throwing trash everywhere. Worst thing is you never learn and no one even cares. So I will be the one to teach you a lesson."

The angel snapped her fingers and everything went back to normal, or did it? She was back at the park, no angel in sight.

She sighed in relief and stared at a woman reading a book while opening a candy wrapper, who then threw it aside. The wind carried it away and she felt something pinch her chest. She gasped and fell on her knees holding where the pain came from, and as if the wind could speak, it whispered...

Goodluck being a Protector, Hawani.

As the pain subsided, she realized what happened. Her eyes widened. Her father's stories were true. Her father had once witnessed a woman punished by the Earth.

The air around her picked up speed and she stood alarmed. She watched a tornado form from the sea, approaching the park. People ran, trying to save themselves. It was unusual to have storms around this area. In fact, it was their first time seeing a tornado.

Somehow, she wasn't affected. The spinning wind called out to her and she walked slowly to it and stretched her hand forward. The wind calmed and subsided, much to her surprise.

She stood stunned, not noticing an old woman standing beside her until she started speaking.

"You did well, my dear."

"Please don't tell anyone." She pleaded.

"Don't worry. I'm just like you, I am this decade's Mother Nature. Like you, I was punished by an angel for a grave mistake on nature. Now, we bear the names, Protectors of Earth. We must try to discourage others from doing the same. We must protect Earth before it's too late."

Hawani realized she was right. After what she had been through today, she knew what she had to do.

Unbeknownst to her, the woman she was with was her mother, the woman her father told her about.
