Chapter 5: The Bet

They were bringing Hinata to the nurse. I was about to stop them since the nurse wasn't there, but I was pulled back by a force.
"Let's just stay here and wait for Kiyoko Senpai"
Tsukishima said while holding on to my wrist. I thought about it and I nodded since I didn't want to miss Kiyoko when she swings by. Plus Sugawara Senpai was there so they would be fine. Once the other team members left, it was only me and Tsukishima. We were in silence. Until he broke it.
"Why'd you lie?"
He asked with his monotone and dull side of his personality. I looked at him and he turned his gaze away. I thought about what I lied about. I didn't figure it out though.
"What do you mean?"
I asked with so much confusion in my voice.
"You, about you playing sports."
He said still resisting to look at me. I didn't know how to respond. It wasn't like I trusted Tsukishima, but I wasn't ready to tell him about my dad yet since I only known him for a couple days.
"I'm sorry..."
I said wanting to continue, but I was pulled into his embrace once again. He hugged me with so much passion and he looked quite calm and relaxed. I snuggle myself deeper into his chest. I don't know why, but I love Tsukishima's embrace. The warmth and the welcoming feeling. Once we heard the gym door open we quickly got out of that position. Kiyoko Senpai looked confused since it was only me and him.
"Where are all the other members?"
She asked in so much confusion because it was only me and Tsukishima in total silence.
"They went to take Hinata to the nurse, well since Hinata was injured"
Tsukishima stated looking up at Kiyoko. She looked confused in how he would've gotten hurt since they were only warming up.
"What happened?"
She investigated further. She was still in total confusion.
"We were playing a mini match since Hinata wanted to see if I was as good as my older brother Owikawa Tooru, but in the process of me hitting a spike he was hit in the face"
I explained to her feeling a bit guilty. Kiyoko Senpai looked at me shocked and she stood there frozen, which I believe because she was in her train of thoughts.
"So you spiked the ball? And it hit Hinata on the face hard enough to the point he needed to go to the nurse?"
Kiyoko repeated and I lowered and nodded my head in a bit of shame. I thought for sure she wouldn't let me be a team manager. I thought she probably wanted me out the gym and to never see my face again. Before I was going to talk I was interrupted.
"Are you interested in signing up for the girls' volleyball team instead? You know to be like a player"
Kiyoko said with hope and desire. Tsukishima and I looked shocked at her sudden statement.
"Pardon? But What?"
I said with so much thoughts running through my head.
"Well since your related to Owikawa Tooru and you were probably trained like him, you must have a high skill level!"
Kiyoko explained. I tilted my head to the left and thought about it. It would be a good way for me to get away from home and I would follow to my brother's expectations as well as my father. I then nodded my head to express it was a "Yes". Kiyoko practically jumped up and she grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the girls' volleyball gym. I heard footsteps behind me so I assumed it was Tsukishima. When we arrived at the gym all eyes were on us. A girl with short hair walked over to us.
"Kiyoko? Who's this"
The girl pointed at me and I waved giving them a nervous face.
"This is your new team player"
Kiyoko explained. The other girl looked at Kiyoko like she was crazy. She doubted me because how short I was. In my head I felt as if these people were criticizing me how short I was.
"Are you sure this middle schooler can be on the high school team"
The girl with short hair mocked me. I scoffed and I can see Tsukishima trying to hold his laugh. I glared at him with annoyance and I got kinda mad which I wasn't use to because I always stayed calm.
" And I'm guessing you wanted to be on the boys' volleyball team, but didn't have the skill"
I returned the rude insulting gesture. She scoffed at the sudden aggression. I smirked at her and I saw from the corner of my eye Tsukishima giggling into his hand.
"What an actually asshole!? How dare you walk into this gym and insult the CAPTAIN of the girls' volleyball team"
The girl said with such anger and aggression. I rolled my eyes at her sudden cockiness.
"Fine then. If you think your so great, then why don't we go on a match. Whoever wins gets to be captain. And loser gets kicked off the team and can get mocked by the winner"
I challenged her. I wasn't afraid because I didn't have anything to lose. Kiyoko and Tsukishima looked at me with a shocked face.
"Okay, you have balls for a 1st year, how are we going to set the teams?"
She said while stepping up to me.
"You can pick whoever you want, girls AND boys"
I said while stepping up to her space.
"This coming Saturday, we meet here at 12 AM, sharp"
She said looking down at me.
"Alright"
I said with a cocker tone. I mentally smirked while leaving the gym. I chuckled at the thought this win would be easy.
"Are you sure about this?"
Tsukishima said with a concerned but a monotone voice.
"I'm positive! Also will you be on my team?"
I asked with a smile holding on to his arm with begging eyes. He looked away and nodded his head. I saw his ears turning into a shade of red. I laughed at the sight of embarrassed Tsukishima.
"Hey Tsukishima?"
I said trying get his attention. I was slowly growing on to Tsukishima slowly. He maybe rude sometimes, but that never stopped him from being there for me, even if it's only been 2 1/2 days. He hummed to signal he was listening.
"Can I call you Tsuki...."
Once I asked I immediately regretted it because he stopped walking. I was about to say something when he suddenly spoke.
"Sure..., but can I call you Shortcake?"
He said in a mocking-ish and serious-ish voice. I playfully hit him in his arm and nodded my head.
