Max was locked in her room. Billy ran away and since this day, the redhead was Neil's new target. She came back home ten minutes late and the man didn't appreciate. He yelled at her before grabbing firmly her wrist and throwing her in her room where she hit her bed with her ribs. He installed a lock out of her room, meaning she couldn't get out. She was too tired anyway; she didn't want to leave her room. She heard the front door slamming, meaning she was alone now. Good. Well, half-good, if she needed to go to the bathroom, she couldn't. She sent a message to Jane and asked her if she wanted to come. The brown head didn't hesitate and accepted. Twenty minutes later, she heard knocks at her window. Max jumped of her bed and opened her window.
- "Hey Jane," smiled softly the redhead.
- "Hi."
Jane slid her body in the window and was almost inside when she lost her balance and managed to not fall thanks to her hands. She blocked her right foot in the window. Max had an amused sigh and freed her friend. The brown head barely had the time to straighten that Max already wrapped her arms around her for a tight hug.
- "I'm happy to see you," said the redhead with emotion in her voice.
- "I'm happy you're happy."
Max tightened more the hug, getting closer her head to Jane's neck. She felt safe in her arms, like if nothing bad could happen when she was here, like a shield against hate.
- "Why didn't you use the front door like a normal person?" asked Max with a soft voice.
- "I don't wanted to see your stepbrother."
- "He is not here. There is just me."
- "Cool, it's more good."
- "Yeah. It's more good."
Max slowly broke the hug before kissing her friend's cheek.
- "Wait here, I'll be fast," said the redhead.
Jane watched her friend leaving by her window. She took a moment to look at her room. There were posters of movies she didn't know and of skateboards, but, most importantly, the drawing she offered her. She liked her room, Jane always wanted to have her own bed, not because she didn't like sleeping with her sister, but, sometime, she was feeling oppressed. She sat on the bed, enjoying the comfy mattress. She heard some noises coming from behind the door and quickly stood. Max reappeared with a smile.
- "You can sit, you know, it's just a bed," reassured the redhead.
- "I wasn't sure."
- "Relax, no one is going to annoy you."
Jane nodded but was still checking in the corridor.
- "Billy really traumatized you," stated Max with terror. "I'm so sorry Jane, I never wanted that..."
- "It's not your fault, but I prefer being intervened than watching you being hurt."
- "Thank you again, you didn't have to."
- "I know."
Max felt her smile growing and her cheeks blushing. Jane had a very cute state of mind, she wondered why everyone wasn't like her or if she deserved to be her friend.
- "You wanna visit?"
- "Um, yeah, of course," smiled Jane.
Max smiled to her and grabbed her hand before walking around with her. She showed her the living-room, the kitchen, and the bathroom before arriving to Billy's room.
- "I don't think you need to see his stuff; you could find...weird things."
- "Oh, ok, I prefer your room anyway."
- "Yeah," smirked the redhead. "You wanna eat something?"
- "Sure, what do you have?"
- "Well (goes to her kitchen and opens her fridge), not that much, leftovers...We can order pizzas if you want?"
- "Oh, uh, don't waste your money for me, I'm sure there are things I like."
- "It's not a waste if it's for you, don't worry. Unless you prefer spinach with breaded fish?"
- "Um..."
- "Yeah, pizzas sound great," stated Max with an amused smile.
The redhead closed her fridge before taking a prospectus of Fast Pizzas on the door of the fridge.
- "What do you like?" asked Max.
- "I don't know, I don't eated lots of pizzas..."
- "Really? Then, we've to try many! So, King Cheese, Hot Ham, Pepperoni, and...Tuna and onion? Is it ok?"
- "Yeah, it's great."
- "Tell me if there's something you don't like, I don't want you to force yourself just to make me happy, ok?"
- "It's ok, I like pizzas, I wanna taste them," reassured Jane.
- "Ok, cool," smiled the redhead.
Max grabbed her phone and ordered the pizzas. To wait, Max proposed Jane if she wanted to watch a movie. Jane accepted but didn't know which movie, her movie culture was very poor.
- "Lilo and Stitch?" proposed Max.
- "Yeah, ok, sounds cool."
- "You can say no, you know?"
- "It's not a horror movie, right?"
- "No, relax, it's Disney, it's a cute story."
- "Ok, cool, then I have no reason to say no," smiled Jane.
Max nodded and crouched to install the DVD while Jane left the room. Some seconds after, the redhead heard her friend murmuring before reappearing with two Teddy Bears in her arms. Max thought it was cute, majority of the teens of her age would have been ashamed to bring cuddly toys like that, but not Jane, she didn't care.
- "You stay for the night?" asked Max.
- "If you want me to, I will."
- "Jane, if you don't want, you don't have to, it's like you want, ok?"
- "Ok, but I would prefer you tell me you want me to stay, like that, I won't feel like I'm imposing myself," told Jane.
- "Then, I would love you to stay with me."
- "Cool. I can wear my pajamas then."
- "Of course, I'm already wearing mine!"
- "I see, it's cute."
- "Thanks."
Jane abandoned Max once again to change her clothes. While Max was alone, the pizzas arrived. It was perfect, they would eat while watching the movie. The redhead installed everything while Jane reappeared, wearing a large hoodie and a tracksuit.
- "You're ready?" smirked Max.
- "Yep," answered Jane, placing Mr. Bear and tiny Paddington on her lap.
Max started the movie and gave Jane a plate with a slice of each pizza. Jane struggled to eat them; the slices were bigger than her own head! She preferred moving her two cuddly toys to not get them dirty, and did well because, the second after, some tomato sauce flowed on her pants. She sighed while Max cleaned her and laughed.
- "That's the kind of things which happen only to you!" stated Max with a big smile.
- "I know, I don't how I do that!" chuckled Jane.
- "You're funny."
Max finished to clean Jane before kissing her cheek and taking another slice. At the end of the movie, the two girls went to bed. As there was only one bed, Jane lied down with her friend, which didn't bother her, used to sleeping with someone. Max placed her head on Jane's shoulder and wrapped her arms around her, like if she was a comforter.
- "I'm really happy you came."
- "I'm happy to be here too."
The two girls fell asleep with a smile, cuddling each other.
