A LITTLE AFTER MIDNIGHT, AMELIE WOKE UP against Karsyn's chest, blinking against the darkness of her dorm room.

They'd fallen asleep around ten and a glance at her clock told her it was nearly one.

Something had woken her.

Voices. Voices were coming from downstairs.

She scrabbled up from the bed, wondering which of her friends had shown up. Ever since Maye had left, it had just been her and Karsyn in the house for hours and he was the only reason she hadn't stormed off after one of them.

Beneath her, Karsyn let out a groan, his pale hair amiss as usual as he rose gradually from slumber.

"Is it morning already?" Karsyn whined, eyes still shut.

Amelie was shoving her feet into slippers, padding over to the door. "No," she told him in a whisper.

"Then come back to bed," he said in a petulant voice, an arm extended to accept her back into his embrace. Under other circumstances, Amelie would be beyond charmed by a shirtless Karsyn Arsov telling her to come back to bed, but her attention at the moment was locked on the finely heard words coming from downstairs.

"You didn't have to walk us to the house," came Juliet's voice.

"I really did," replied a male's voice. British. But it wasn't Matthew's. "Your friend over here seems more than likely to steal a car and drive back to Mayfair in a heartbeat."

"Who's there?" Karsyn asked, brows wrinkling as he sat up, finally noting the muffled conversation downstairs, his pale eyes blinking blearily from sleep.

Amelie didn't answer, only pushed open her door and furiously padded down the hall to the stairwell leading into the foyer, as recognition of the voice struck.

"Can you blame me?" came Maye's snapping voice. She sounded enraged. "We have to go back, Juliet."

Juliet, who was dressed in a brand new, glamorous rose gold gown which was a sharp contrast to Amelie's oversized pyjamas, was saved from replying by Amelie appearing on the stairs. Her friend's lips fell shut at the sight of her.

Amelie didn't bother climbing down the rest of the stairs before demanding, "What is he doing here?"

Grayson, Matthew's muscled, tattooed Second in Command, did not seem fazed by Amelie's suspicious stare.

Instead, his electric blue eyes pulled back to Maye as he stated, "No. We don't."

Maye twisted her head to him. "I don't remember speaking to you."

Juliet took ahold of Mayella's shoulder before she could attack Grayson any further, even though Matthew's Second seemed perfectly capable of handling himself. In fact, he even grinned a little at Maye's rude staring. "Freya told me to leave, Maye," said Juliet levelly.
