you played the strings of my soul,
like the roadtrip soundtrack to my heart.
each string plucked
dropping me deeper and deeper in love -
as if your fingertips were knives
and the strings, rope holding me up.
as you played you sang and whispered,
darling please don't cry -
as tears streamed down your face
and i sank deeper and deeper
down into the pool of your love,
not knowing if at any moment
your lullaby would pull me under
and lock the river shut,
or fly me higher and higher
with your heart clutched in mine.
