You leaned over the railing to watch your school, Aoba Johsai's first match in male volleyball. Being a newly transferred student in your second year was pretty tough, especially since you had to learn new school custom from scratch. You didn't have friends — just acquaintances — and the closest person to you was your classmate, Kyotani.

Since many people had already made a fundamental friend group from first year, and some even from junior high, it was near impossible to find a group that was actually accepting of someone new. It didn't bother you much but perhaps because of that you had grown accustomed to admiring people who were in the sidelines.

As you watched the match, you couldn't help but overhear the squealing of several girls towards the team setter, Oikawa. Some were even crying by the corner because he was 'so cool'.

'I mean sure, he's a really good player, could easily say the best in that team, but he isn't the only good player. Why aren't more people cheering for the others?' you thought.

You continued to observe and your eyes fell on boy number 4. The ace.

You knew a thing or two about volleyball from your elder brother who used to play for your previous school, and you knew enough to know this ace was a good player. He was strong, reliable and an important asset to the team. So why no one else was cheering him on?

A sigh escaped your lips while you pondered on how you could make a difference.

Soon, the match came to an end, and you walked out too. Aoba Johsai won by an impressive margin; they definitely showed why they'd be called a top 4 team in the prefecture. Going downstairs, you heard yet again that annoying squealing of fangirls, right outside the hall, who looked as if they were awaiting the arrival of an idol, which arguably, they were.

As you walked past, you noticed a single stalk of rose on the floor, in perfectly good health. It seemed like this rose had fallen from one of the fangirls' bouquet and they hadn't noticed – or they had, but they thought it was too insignificant to bother picking it up.

But you didn't think that way. After all, you never know whose day you might make just a little bit better by handing them a gift.

You picked it up without much thought and continued to peek into the gym, to see if your school players were still there.

"I'm going to go meet my fangirls," you observed the setter tell the ace.

The ace, who was still packing up his stuff, told his captain, "Don't be late, Trashykawa."

Oikawa replied, "So mean, Iwa-chan~!"

The ace, 'Iwa-chan', was soon the only person left behind, his teammates leaving the gym most probably to get onto their bus to head back to school, and you took this golden opportunity to talk to him.

"Excuse me?" you asked, a single rose in your hand.

The ace, who had finished packing, was just about to leave, but he stopped upon hearing your voice. And as he turned, he felt the world come to a stop.

Wow, he thought to himself.

Iwaizumi Hajime was surprised to see you, his mouth slightly agape. He couldn't help but admire your eyes as they sparkled under the gym lights, your hair that looked slightly messy but framed your face well and your lips that looked so soft. Beautiful.

He noticed you wearing his school's uniform too, and wondered how on earth he didn't know who you were. With a face like yours, it was impossible that he would forget it. Is she a first year? he wondered.

Internally, he was getting excited; his heart fluttering a little but then he saw the single rose in your hand and just like that, he felt his heart drop.

Must be another one of Shittykawa's fans.

The ace pointed towards the exit, "Oikawa's over there."

You eyed him curiously, wondering why he had said that, until you realized what he must have meant. He was about to leave when you called again, "Hang on."

He turned, and you extended your arm to offer him the flower.

"This is for you," you said simply.

He was baffled, completely surprised by the gesture and before he knew it, blood was rushing to his cheeks as he stood in awe.

You continued, "I thought you did really well today, so here."

He finally braved himself to take it, stifling out an awkward, "T-thank you."

"No problem." You chuckled a little, "Sorry, if you don't mind me asking. What's your name? I, uh, I just transferred to Seijoh so I'm unaware."

She's new. That makes a whole lot more sense. "Which year?" he asked a little too hastily.

You replied, "Second."

"Oh," he said.

For a moment, there was silence, until you broke it, "So your name?"

He blinked, "Oh, sorry, Iwaizumi. I'm Iwaizumi Hajime."

"I'm (l/n)(y/n)."

He repeated your name, feeling it at the tip of his tongue. He thought it was a beautiful name.

You nodded, "I guess I'll see you in school, Iwaizumi-san." You began to walk away, and right before you went through the exit, you turned once more, "Oh and good luck for your future games."

You left the hall without much on your mind, but Iwaizumi Hajime was left frozen, his cheeks stained fully red.
