Anyone could see that Evie ElClaire was miserable. Picking at her food, not interested in her friends conversations, zoning out in classes and shuffling around the hallways like a zombie.

"She looks like a widow. You know, from like the war days? Or one of those mystery books."

"Or a ghost. Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter, just hotter."

The whispers and the rumours flew around the school. Evie heard them, even if she didn't respond or react. She knew her ice queen reign was melting. But she couldn't see the point in trying to save it.

What's the use anyway? The only person who was really important to me was Roxy, and she's gone. So what does it matter if a bunch of teenagers think I'm cool, or pretty or popular? Evie thought to herself, sitting in English class one Friday afternoon. It's been a week since she last saw or heard from Roxy.

A hand suddenly grabbed Evie's arm, jerking her thoughts back to reality. She looked up to see May standing by her desk, gripping her arm tightly and pulling her up. The whole class gawked, and a very annoyed teacher tried to tell them to sit back down.

"We'll just be a moment." May apologised and whisked Evie out of the room.

"Where are we going?" Evie asked, brows together in confusion. But May just kept powering forward until they ended up in the girls bathroom. May checked beneath all the stalls, and when she was sure the coast was clear, she spoke.

"Okay, talk." She demanded. When Evie said nothing, May clarified. "Talk to me Evie. What is going on with you? Remember me, your friend?" Guilt struck at Evie's heart. She knew she hadn't been around, or a good friend lately.

"I'm sorry May, things have just been rough-" She started, about to shrug the whole thing off or blame it on Gloria again when May interrupted.

May took a step closer to Evie and pointed a red acrylic finger in her face. "No lies. Stop lying to me Evie. Please."

"What do you want from me?" Evie sighed, exhaustion settling into her bones. What is up with these women in my life right now? Everyone wants something from me, but I either have no clue what or can't give it to them.

"I want my Evie back. The supposed ice bitch who walked these hallways like she owned them. The girl who teased every guy she saw without meaning to. The girl who knew exactly what to say and when, poster child of all things beautiful and pure. Who went shopping all the time, who was terrified of being alone in public, who relied on her friends." May peered at Evie, long and hard. Listening to her describe the old me... she doesn't even sound familiar.

"That wasn't me, May. Not the real me anyway. Just who everyone wanted me to be." Evie replied softly. May was shaking her head, like a stubborn child who didn't want to hear that Santa Claus wasn't real.

"No, I refuse to believe that. I refuse to believe that the Evie I've known since we were children, was a lie. A fake." May crossed her arms over her chest and stuck out her chin. Evie just watched her, a mixture of sadness and detachment.

"Why is that so hard for you to believe?" Evie asked, genuinely confused. People change. It's not-

Evie's thoughts were interrupted when May said: "Because, this." And abruptly leant forward and kissed Evie.

Evie's eyes widened and she pulled back, shocked. Evie sputtered as May turned red. WHAT?

"What? But... you.. me... what?" Evie struggled for the words, completely shell shocked.

"I love you Evie." May proclaimed, causing the wind to be knocked out of her. Evie felt her legs go wobbly and she grabbed the wall for support. Am I dreaming? How is this possible? "I always have. But you were always so straight, and then you started to loose interest in Dylan, and I thought maybe you were questioning your sexuality. I was so excited and was hoping you'd notice me, but instead you pulled away." May rambled on, the words flowing out like vomit.
