A/N before you start I must warn you, this is kinda weird. I've been watching a bucket load of Anime so there are some abnormal things I have added. Just bare with me please. I couldn't stop myself. I'm disappointed in myself. Anyways, if powers aren't your cup of tea I suggest you don't read these two chapter. Byeee

Will's POV   Years Earlier

"You still have these? What are you? 5?" My dad screamed and used his arm to sweep all my action figured off my desk, scattering my comic books. Usually I don't have to worry about my dad doing something like this because he's always gone either at work or on a business trip. He works for construction, a really good agency, people all over ask the agency to build something for them so my dad is constantly traveling. But he's home now and he's not happy.

I sat in a corner, knees pulled up to my chin, bottom lip trembling. "B-but dad-" I tried but he glared at me and cut me off. "Shut up! People like us aren't like them." he gestured to my toys now all over  the floor. He stomped angrily on them and took one of my comic books and ripped it. "You will never be a hero with your worthless power." he said before grabbing all my comics and stomping out the room and dropped them in the hallway trash bin as he passed my mom who was watching teary eyed outside the door.

I cried harder as I moved away from my corner and dragged myself to my toys. They were broken, dented and destroyed. "LEARN TO BE A MAN!" my dad shouted before slamming his door.

I picked up the pieces and held them to my chest. I was the only one in my house with a power and my dad hates it. He said that if he ever saw me use it he'd buy a collar that'll shock me every time I even try to use it. I got up, avoided my mom's eyes and closed my door. Then I stumbled over to my bed and went under the covers and covered my face. I sobbed onto my pillow and neither one of my parents even thought about inviting me to dinner.

"My powers aren't worthless." I sniffed and rolled onto my back and pulled the covers down so that my head could come out. I held my hands up to my face and examined them. I turned them over and looked at the back.

People who were born with powers were called The Given. We were called that because we were given special gifts. People don't have it as soon as they're born but wait until they are 5. No later or younger. On your 5th birthday. The first change is your eye color. Givens are ranked by their eye color. White is the weakest, then it's yellow, burgundy, neon green, black, red, purple. No one goes past green at a young age. Right now I'm still a white. You see, you don't really have to train to earn your strength, it just comes. Most people stay at a yellow for their whole life. But others get farther. Once your past black you're a hero.

But some Givens choose to use their strength for bad purposes. Once you start becoming bad you're eye color changes to an orange. But it only goes to orange when you're doing something bad. So if you're just simply walking down the street, your eye color is regular. Blue brown or whatever.

I don't just want to be a Given I want to be a hero.

I started the red flame in my hand and watched it dance. They weren't worthless. Just undeveloped. I'm only 7. They'll get stronger. Just watch.

I closed my fist tight, the flame disappearing. " I WILL be a hero."

Present

I don't understand how I'm 15 yet my mom and older brother still thought that if they sent me up to my bedroom and talked in "hushed" voices I wouldn't know something was up. Which was why, at ten o'clock on a Saturday night, instead of hanging out with my friends, I had my face smashed against my mother's door trying my best to see through the dumb keyhole on her door that is completely useless in times other than this because my dad broke the door and then put the key in the garbage dispenser because my mom tried locking herself and I in there and keeping the key inside with us.
