Lost
You were staring off into space, not paying attention to the ramblings coming from the boy in front of you. His voice was muffled by the thoughts clouding your mind. It's been happening more than you can count. It wasn't Dib's fault, but it just happened.
Things were supposed to get better and they were...were. You and Dib settled whatever obstacles that kept you apart. You secured your relationship to the point of not having any problems or situations. It was great. No more jealousy, trust issues, or worries.
But why were you not... satisfied?
You shook your head, dissing the mental thoughts of your inner demons. Of course you were satisfied with Dib. He made your heart happy.
"What do you think?"
"Huh?" You replied in a flat tone.
Dib titled his head, lowering the spork in his hand. He cleared his throat, setting the utensil down before grinning, "We should go to the aquarium. They opened new exhibits this weekend and if I'm able to take note of some of the fish and reptiles, I can link them to the Loch Ness monster."
"I didn't know reptiles could be shown at aquariums." Your eyes stayed on the table. Then, you realize this could be a chance to chase those damn demons away. "Do you want to go after school?"
"Oh, uh yeah. Today works!" Dib's grin widened at your eagerness.
"Great, it's a date." You sat up, tray in hand. "I'll wait for you after school."
You went to throw your food away in the trash, but as you passed the other tables, a pair of dull eyes locked with yours. They were purple and menacing, watching your every move. You stopped. Every detail in the cafeteria was swallowed by a black shadow, casting itself all around you. Those purple eyes were still watching you.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
Gretchen lead you into the hallway, disposing of the contents from the tray and placed it on the garbage can. She took your hand in hers and guided you to a bench. She sat in patience waiting for you to come back into reality. Gretchen was on her way to the restroom when she found you frozen like a statue. It was like you were stuck in time.
Your (color) eyes stare at hers, blinking as everything looked normal again. "Uh, hi?"
"Hi." She said softly. "Are you alright? I think you blanked out a second ago."
"...Yeah." You hesitated. You didn't even know what happened, except for seeing those eyes.
"Are you sure?" She asked, raising a brow.
You opened your mouth to tell her about your brief lucid state, but decided not to. Keeping the smallest things to yourself would probably worsen how you feel later on, but it wasn't a big deal to you at the moment. Besides, you weren't pushing it away. You were just setting it aside because it wasn't a big issue.
Gretchen nodded and stood up. "If you need to talk, let me know anytime." She sent you a small smile and went back into the cafeteria. Part of her instincts told her to stay longer, and the other half told her to leave it alone in case it upset you that she was being pushy.
