LOKI WAS taken away by Inspector Morales. Kahit anong paliwanag namin sa kaniya, ayaw niya kaming pakinggan. He refused to waste any second listening to the explanation on why our club president could not have attempted to kill Monica Segundo.
Strangely, our club president did not resist. Kusang loob siyang sumama sa chief. Cooperating with the authorities must be his way of proving his innocence. Kapag in-interrogate siya mamaya, siguradong lalabas din ang katotohanan.
"Loki dear was with us the whole time!" Nagpalakad-lakad sa aming clubroom si Jamie. Kanina pa siya hindi mapakali, mula nang sunduin ang dear niya. "How could he have stabbed someone with an icepick kung kasama natin siya? Ano 'yon? Kaya niyang pahintuin ang oras para puntahan si Monica at saksakin sa tagiliran?"
"Our words cannot refute the evidence easily." Nanatiling nakatayo si Alistair, chine-check ang mga folder ng mga suspek namin sa pagiging Bastien copycat. "The fact that they found his fingerprints on the weapon and on the note will prove it hard for us to turn the table."
"Let's set things straight." Itinaas ko ang aking mga kamay. Napatingin ang mga kasama ko sa akin, maging si Freya. "Loki is not a murderer, even though he almost killed Stein Alberts back at Diogenes Café. He has no motive to hurt Monica Segundo. And he does not own or hide any icepick in this clubroom."
"Mas mabuti nga yatang si Officer Estrada pa rin ang campus police chief!" naghihimutok na reklamo ni Jamie. "Kung ire-review niya ang unang dalawang killings, alam niyang hindi magagawa ni Loki dear ang mga 'yon!"
"But how can we explain the fingerprints?" Palipat-lipat ang tingin ko sa kanila. "'Yon ang major factor kaya naisip ni Inspector Morales na primary suspect si Loki."
"Diyan pumapasok ang nanloob kanina sa clubroom natin." Isinara ni Alistair ang isang folder at bumukas ng bago. Pasulyap-sulyap siya sa amin habang nagbabasa. "Gaya ng sinabi ni Jamie kanina, walang nawawala o nadagdag sa mga gamit na nandito. Maybe the intruder was after something else."
"Loki's fingerprints!" bulalas ko. Nabaling ang mga nanlaki kong mata sa aking kababata.
Tumango siya. "Bastien copycat must have taken advantage of the fake bomb threat. He knew that everyone would be asked to evacuate kaya sinamantala niya 'yon para buksan ang lock ng clubroom at kumuha ng fingerprints ni Loki mula sa mga bagay na hinawakan niya."
"But is that even possible?" Napakamot ng ulo si Jamie, nakakunot ang noo. "To transfer one's prints from one object to another?"
"Some claimed it's possible, some claimed it's not. But the three of us know that there's no way Loki would touch an icepick to stab someone. The only possible explanation here is that the Bastien copycat lifted his fingerprints and put them on the weapon and the note."
