Aelia's pov

-

"I wasn't aware of this trip" I said as I walked into the kitchen, I found my mother humming to a tune as she stirred the pot.

"It was a sudden trip but his Campaign manager agreed upon it" my mother said

"What does this have to do with his elections?" I questioned

"I'm not sure but there's something about how strategic he is with saving funds from games and using it to take the entire grade on a trip since school's about to close and it'll be the last trip you guys get before full on being prepared for exams next term" she said. My mother spun on her heel and had a wooden spoon in her hand with sauce

"Taste it" she said as she walked closer

"No. Mom no!" I chuckled

"It's just a hom-"

"Homemade recipe yes I know, you're going crazy with these recipes" I said. With each step she took I got even more anxious

"Just taste a small bit" she pouted

"Mom. Stop" I hissed

"Just a bit" she smirked and brought it to my lips. I laughed and shut my lips tightly. Both lips.

"Mom!" I squealed. She dropped the spoon onto the counter and started attacking me with fucking tickles.

"Oh my God. Help! Someone!" I laughed, my body folded like a Taco and I tired to rock myself out of her brace. Her fingers wiggled against my sides. I was panting for breath before she pulled away. I continued to laugh until I couldn't breathe anymore.

"That was cruel!" I yelled

"Should have tasted my remedy" she pouted

"What are you even doing with that?" I asked

"It's for foot fungu-"

"ew stop. What the hell. You wanted me to eat that" I scrunched my face in disgust.

"I have nothing to do at home" she groaned. I stared at her, she looked uneasy, maybe she was actually taking this hard

"What's wrong?" I asked

"I'm not accustomed to being home. My life was based on constantly working and I never found it stressful.  It had long hours and alot of travelling but it was something I'm passionate about" she said

"Then why are you home?"

"I have to fulfill my duty as your mother Aelia. I've spent way too long away from you and I'm not gonna let my job stop me from knowing my daughter" she said. I could see how much this was actually bothering her

"Mom, it's okay. You've been nothing but a great mother. I wouldn't be where I am without you. You've been stressing yourself out trying to please me when you should be making yourself happy. If working is what you really care about then I won't stop you from doing that" I said as I placed a comforting hand on hers. She looked at me with a gleam in her eyes

"I could ask to be off by 4 so I could be home with you and your father" she says

"That's not a bad idea. You should call them right now" I smiled

"Now? That's too soon" she said as she bit her finger nervously

"Mom, call them" I chuckled, she pulled her phone from her apron and dialed her boss's number. She placed it on speaker and the device rested on the counter

"Hello?" the man's voice echoed through the kitchen

"Ben, it's Linda" My mother said

"Linda, my God I've been meaning to call you. Linda we're struggling here without your ideas. I hired a few interns and they couldn't even get the right coffee, much less give me my financial operation" he groaned

"Well I actually have some good news" she smiled and winked at me

"You're coming back!?" she screamed excitedly, I laughed

"Is that Aelia? Hi Aelia, it's been a long time sweetie"

"Hi Ben" I smiled

"Ben, I'll only come back if you let me off early. Maybe around 4pm, I still need to spend time with my family" she smiled as she hugged me from behind.

"Dammit, we're supposed to be flying to Vegas next week. We'll need your overtime" he said

"It's that or nothing Ben" she said

"Done. It's done. Whatever you need, just start tomorrow" he said. My mother high fived me before ending the call

"And that's, how the cookie crumbles" she smirked. I laughed at the woman that continued to stir her foot fungus soup- DISGUSTING

"Well, can you atleast sign my permission slip" I said as I slid the paper towards her. She pulled a pen from her hair and placed her signature on the paper before returning it back to me

"What's that?" she questioned looking towards the canvas on the counter

"We had an assignment two months ago to find out what our partners love, something that makes them happy. We had to know them on a deeper level" I said

"Ah, I think I remember, and you were paired with Luna right?" she said, I nodded in approval

"I gave her mine and she gave me the painting she made for me" I said

"I didn't know you two were on talking terms again" my mother said as she walked over to the painting

"I- I'm not sure. I just... Feel off. There's just this weird feeling that's stopping me from doing what I really want to"

"And what exactly do you want to do?" she asked

"I... I don't know" I sighed

"Think of it this way. Whatever is coming between you two right now, will it really matter in the next ten years?" Oh you have no idea.

"It's just, whatever is happening came as a surprise. I'm finally getting comfortable with it" I said. My mother nodded and trailed her fingers over the painting. Thankfully I have a mother that understood when to not push an issue

"This is beautiful" she mumbled

"She said the hair is blue because of the time I painted it" I chuckled

"Oh my God, I remember that day. I came back from a meeting that was eight hours long. I didn't eat that day and your father had to deal with some aggressive parents that day. We weren't in the right head space that day. Then in comes little Aelia with paint in her hair" She chuckles

"I was happy! Okay! It was the first time I actually wanted to do something for myself" I said

"I know, because the girl with blue hair was a cheerleader and you kept watching them practice every afternoon. The next day were enrolled you into dance lessons and now you're a cheerleader" she smiled

"It's funny how things turn out" I chuckled

"It really is. Now go shower, dinner will be ready in a few" she said. I nodded and took the painting with me to my room.

I walked up there stairs and locked my door, my eyes trailed around to room for an empty spot. I smiled and noticed a nail hanging over the bed. I climbed onto the soft bed and hung the painting above the headboard. I smiled at her perfectly it fitted in with the blue walls. Suddenly my phone vibrated in my pocket. I whipped out the device and checked my messages. I raised my brow at the text
