Arthur Morgan X Female Reader

Summary: just a little oneshot based on the fact that Arthur sings to himself.

Word Count: 800

You were walking through the camp, aiming to just sit at the campfire with a drink. You just wanted to take a break but nothing could ever be so simple.

"Miss L/n! We're running low on supplies, would you mind heading out on a hunt?" Pearson's voice stopped you in your tracks. You should have avoided him, you realise that now.

"I went hunting yesterday and brought back a deer. Can't you ask somebody else to go?" you asked, turning to him with a small huff.

"Mr Smith is busy and you know how the others are" Pearson told you, speaking again before you had the chance. "One more deer should do it, I'd really appreciate it" he gave you a small smile before just walking away.

"Get your own damn deer" you muttered to yourself, turning back in the direction you were heading. A familiar chuckle made you look up to see Arthur standing in front of you with an amused expression on his face.

"I'm glad he saw you before he saw me" Arthur joked.

"Never mind the deer, I'm going to gut Pearson if he asks me to go hunting again" you complained, making him laugh again.

"Come on" Arthur placed his hand on your shoulder before releasing it and walking over to the horses.

"Where are we going?" you asked, following him without complaint.

"You need to get out of here before you really do stab somebody. Let's go for a ride" Arthur suggested with a smile.

"Sounds good to me" you smiled as you reached the horses.

You both mounted your horses and rode out of the camp. It was very common for you and Arthur to just get on your horses and go on a ride with no real destination in mind, just the two of you getting away from the camp. Sometimes your rides were filled with conversation and laughter, other times they were almost silent. This ride was the latter.

A comfortable silence surrounded you both as you put more distance between yourselves and the camp. After riding for a while, the two of you steered away from the main roads and were now riding down some more forested paths.

All you could hear was your horses and the birds singing over head. For a moment it felt like it was only you and Arthur in existence, it was nice. These were the moments you loved. You could feel your whole being relax.

It was then when Arthur started humming to himself. You glanced at him and smiled when you realised that he didn't even notice he was doing it, that's adorable. You turned your attention back to the road, listening to his soft humming and not wanting him to stop.

Gradually, Arthur's humming started to turn into murmured lyrics. The smile on your face only grew as you listened to him quietly singing. Whether he could sing or not, you couldn't care less, you could listen to it all day.

You couldn't help but watch him in complete awe, sometimes you were just overwhelmed by how much you loved this man. Many people only saw his rough edges, his sarcasm and his rugged nature. They only saw him as an outlaw but you knew him so much better, he was a good man with a good heart. God, you just loved him so much.

It was moments like these that loved lived for, soft and quiet moments alone with Arthur. You couldn't help but stare, you hadn't even noticed that you were doing it but you couldn't help but watch him with an adoring smile on your face.

Suddenly becoming aware of himself, Arthur went silent and looked at you, his face flushing a light shade of red.

"Sorry, didn't realise..." Arthur mumbled, clearly embarrassed that you had caught him singing or that he had been singing without even noticing.

"No, it's alright. I like it. Don't stop" you pleaded gently, admiring his side profile.

"I dunno..." Arthur blushed again, making you smile so more. You just thought he was so sweet.

"Please? Just pretend I ain't even here" you gave him another smile and Arthur sighed, knowing that he couldn't deny you of anything.

You didn't want to push anymore, if he would continue he would continue, if he didn't then he didn't. Still, you would like him to.

The two of you rode in silence for a short moment longer before he started to hum again, putting another smile on your face. Once again, his humming slowly turned back into murmured lyrics.

You smiled to yourself before beginning to hum along, the two of you continuing to ride in peace.

You knew that the two of you would find a pleasant place to sit together and enjoy each other's company before heading back to the camp. It was another thing that you enjoyed to do, to just sit and get away from everything together. You loved the gang, as did Arthur, but it could still get on top of you both, sometimes you just needed a break. And neither of you would rather be anywhere else than beside each other.
