*LEILA*

The same day, after Angelica and her brother left, I was in my room reading the book that Valeria gave me when I heard a knock.

Thinking it was Valeria, I didn't bother to wear something decent, so I stayed in my tank top and shorts.

I told her to come in and when the door opened, Demetrio stood behind it.

I quickly covered myself with the duvet.

"Demetiro...hey."

"Sorry to bother you at this time, are you free?"

"Yes, come in."

He closed the door behind him and it suddenly became hot. I was hot.

He sat on the bed in front of me, a little too close for my liking. Not that I didn't want him to be close.

"Is something wrong?" I asked with concern.

"I wanted to ask you if you are okay."

"I am. Why wouldn't I be?" I asked, furrowing my brows.

He sighed before saying, "Because of what Angelica said."

"Oh, no, don't worry. I am okay."

"I just want you to know that it wasn't your fault, okay?"

"Thanks, Demetrio," I said with a smile.

He smiled back before looking down at my stomach.

"How is the baby?" he asked.

"Good, I guess. It's almost three months, can you believe it?"

"Time flies."

"Yeah."

"So, you'll know the gender next month," he said.

"Yes."

"What do you think it would be?" he asked with curiosity.

"I feel it's a girl," I replied with a smile.

"Really?"

I nodded.

None of us said anything else. Silence fell upon us, but it wasn't an awkward one.

All of a sudden, he put his hand on my belly and moved it in circular motions. He didn't look at me as his eyes were already on my belly.

"Sorry..." he said, taking his hand back. "I don't know why I did that."

"It's okay, Demetrio."

He took a deep breath before saying, "I feel a weird connection to it."

"Really?" I grinned.

I didn't expect him to say that.

"I know that's stupid," he said, shaking his head.

"No, no, it isn't. I just didn't think it would be possible."

"Maybe because it's the first baby in the family, you know," he said with a shrug, not caring about what he said and what it did to me.

Family?

Is that how he saw me?

Was I part of his family?

Was I that important?

My eyes teared up as all the question invaded my thoughts.

"Leila? Why are you crying?" Demetrio asked as he got closer, as if trying to calm me or to see if I was okay.
