The day of the VMA's was fast approaching and the nerves were beginning to eat at Joelle's insides.

"Joelle, chill out. You'll be amazing, you always are." Jack spoke to his girlfriend as they sat on the couch, watching High School Musical for the third time that week. It was her favourite film. She could quote it word for word but she wasn't today and that's how Jack knew that something was up.

"I know but it's my first major performance and I wish that you could be there." Joelle wanted nothing more than for her boyfriend to be there in the crowd when she performed. She figured he would be able to calm her nerves when she was singing to the thousands of people who would be there, many of them being big named celebrities.

"Who says I can't make it?" Joelle was positive that she had just misheard the words that came from her boyfriend's mouth. He had told her that he didn't think he would be able to get away from training and she completely understood.

"I thought you said that dean wasn't giving you time off?" Joelle was completely confused. She knew it was a long shot when she first asked him.

"I was going to surprise you but I managed to twist his arm a bit. I've got time to get there, watch you perform and come back the day after." Jack had been trying to keep the secret to himself but he didn't have it in him. He told Joelle everything when they were younger, some things were probably better left unsaid but now that they were both older, he still hadn't learned to keep things private.

"How?" Joelle still couldn't believe it. She didn't care that he would only be there for a short amount of time because she would too. She only cared that he would be there in the audience to watch her and cheer her on.

"I asked him weeks ago, when I first found out. We went back and forth about it during training and I think it could see that I was down about it so he spoke to Dean. It's a one off though so I probably won't be able to take time off for any others." Jack explained how it had all happened and Joelle couldn't have been any happier. She threw herself into his arms and hugged him tightly.

"I love your manager." Joelle sighed into the crook of his neck, the cool air sending goosebumps across Jack's skin.

"I thought that sentence was going to go a little differently but I'll work with it." The Brummie boy laughed as Joelle pressed a small kiss in the crook of his neck.

"Obviously I love you as well." She rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to the screen where Troy and Gabriella started to sing Right Here, Right Now. It was a scene that Joelle had tried to recreate with Jack in the tree house countless times when the film was first released but unfortunately, Jack just didn't have the same musical talent that she had.

"You leave tomorrow and I'll see you the day after." Jack mumbled to himself, not sure how he would cope that long without her.

It had been twenty four hours without seeing Joelle in person and Jack was going nuts. The couple didn't live together and since Joelle had moved back in with her parents, she was always round at his house for movie nights to get away from the rest of the world.

He couldn't text her because she was flying and when she landed, he was asleep because of the time difference. Jack knew that it was unhealthy how attached he was to her but in his defence, he was making up for lost time.

The Brummie boy looked out the plane window and saw the American landscape beneath him. It was a beautiful sight and Jack wished that he would be able to explore more of California with his girlfriend but he had made a silent promise to himself that one day they would visit the state together.

"Jack, come on." John McGinn's voice pulled the Brummie boy out of his thoughts. Dean would only let Jack go out of the country if John went with him to keep him out of trouble and keep him away from the media. The manager of the football club knew that Joelle wouldn't let Jack get into trouble but two sets of eyes were better than one.

"Coming." The Brummie boy picked up his hand luggage from the floor of the plane and hurried to catch up with his team-mate.

Jack couldn't get his girlfriend off his mind. Tonight was going to be her night and he couldn't wait to see her give the performance of her life.

John could tell that his best friend was excited to see his girlfriend perform but he also knew that Jack was nervous.

"Oi, she loves you. Everything is going to be okay. Stop being so insecure." A strong hand hit Jack on the back and the Brummie boy knew that he had to relax.

"I know, I know. I just want her to do well but I'm selfish and I don't want her to leave." Jack admitted. He knew that he was being selfish but he couldn't help it. He would never stop her from going for her dreams but a part of him wanted Joelle to stay in his arms forever and be his little, singing secret.

a/n: i can't with these two 🥺 joelle's big performance is coming up in the next chapter!

who do we reckon is getting top five this season and the all important european places?
- i was hoping leicester would finish third but if their current form continues, i'm not too confident. i think chelsea and man united will get spots as well.
