Sam woke up and gave a hearty yawn, stretching his limbs before trudging downstairs to the smell of pancakes and bacon. He smiled to himself, walking into the kitchen and seeing his mom placing one last piece of bacon by the rest. "Morning, I just finished breakfast." She piped, a smile wide on her cheeks, "Get your father please, he's in his study."
"Morning." Sam chuckled, then walked towards his fathers study. The double doors were opened revealing his father sitting at his desk, his glass down to the brim of his nose as he read something. "Morning, dad. Breakfast is ready."
His dad looked up, taking his glasses off and sitting them on the oak desk before standing up with a smile. "Morning, son. I was wondering if you'd like to go on the boat today."
Sam nodded frantically with a smile, "Can we?"
"Let's get some breakfast, then we'll pack lunch and go boating." Sam nodded in agreement, they walked back to the kitchen where Sam's mother had the food on the table along with orange juice and coffee.
Once they were done, they said their thank you's and helped with the food and dishes before his father talked to his mother about the boat. She agreed and they all began packing the lunch for the two, after packing strawberries, sandwiches, chips, and cookies with a side of Coke's and waters for refreshments.
They grabbed more things they'd need before changing into boat-comfy clothes and heading towards the beach. As they walked to the dock, Sam's flip flops flung sand up as he smiled and looked at the ocean.
When they reached the dock, Sam and his father sat their things down on the boat before getting everything ready for sailing. Once it was done, Sam got on the boat as his father untied it from the dock and joined him.
Sailing begun, the boat drove farther from shore as Sam smiled and looked around as the wind blew his hair and pinched at his cheeks. "Sammy, look!" His fathers called out, pointing towards a certain area. As he looked, he saw dolphins flipping and diving from the water. Though it's not his first time seeing dolphins, every single time he looks in awe.
"Look, that ones flipping really high!" Sam pointed out, he and his father gazed at the dolphins a bit more before stopping the boat and anchoring down. Shore was just barely in view, but the small line of land was still visible.
Sam sat in the shade of the sail as he applied sunscreen, he got the lecture of 'putting it on before leaving' from his father and just agreed before continuing. They sat and talked for a while, time passed before they opened the cooler and ate their sandwich and chips. Munching on their strawberries, Sam was sat in the edge of the boat when something hit it roughly and caused him to fall into the water.
He went under briefly, seeing a flash of blue and brunette hair along with something shimmering in the sun. His eyes widened as he flew up from the water and gasped for air. "Sam!" His dad called, taking his hands and pulling him into the boat. "Jesus, are you okay?"
Sam nodded, looking back down into the water and squinting to look for what he believed he saw. "I-I saw something, it had blue shimmery fin and hair-!"
"Sam, Sam calm down." His dad said with a bit of a chuckle, "Those mermaid stories really got to you." He joked, nudging his son softly.
The blonde just forced a small laugh, "Yeah, they must've."

They finally arrived home, the sun was still high in the sky as his father docked the boat and the two walked to the house. After putting away the food items and the cooler, they both went to greet Sam's mother as she sat in their living room.
"Hey, you two. Have fun?" They both nodded, Sam sat across from her as his father sat next to her on the couch. "Sam, I wanted to talk to you about something."
"Sure, everything okay?" He asked, he smiled just to make sure.
"Yeah, sweety. I just.. want you to make friends. We talked to a few people in town and I have a friend who's willing to bring her son over." She had a big smile on her face, proud of her words.
Sam gulped, and wanted to protest. The thought of hurting his mothers feelings made him argue against it, he didn't want a friend. Of course he wanted a friend, but now the thought of actually having one was scary. "Wh-When?"
"Well, I'm going to invite them over for dinner. You two will go to your room, or if you want to show him the beach you can. I just want you to know people, Sammy, you don't go out or to school even.." She spoke subtly.
"O-Okay.. I'm gonna shower, I fell in the water." He said, standing from the couch and going to his room then bathroom. After he showered, he dressed in nice white cargo shorts with a white, baby blue, and dark blue striped shirt.
He fixed his hair a bit before walking downstairs to see his mom tidying up. "They're almost here! Their sons name is Jake, the Webber's are very kind people I think we'll all get along." Sam didn't know if she was telling him that or herself, she seemed quite nervous.
His thoughts were stopped once their doorbell rang, his mother called his fathers name as they walked towards the door. She opened it, Sam's heart was beating out of his chest as his mother held a bright smile. "Hello! Come in, please." Once they were all in she smiled, and turned to me, "This is my son Sam, Sam these two have been my friends since high school."
Sam smiled tightly and nodded softly, "Nice to meet you."
"He's adorable, lord does he look like you. This is our son Jake." A boy stood there with a dimpled smile, a piercing was in his nose as his hair was dyed a dark purple.
"We can go to the living room, I'll get tea. Sam, how bout you take Jake to hang out." She smiled and have him a look, subtly telling him that it'd be okay.
He nodded and walked with the purple haired boy trailing behind him. "W-Wanna go to my room, or the beach?" He asked nervously, he'd never hung out with anyone before. His nerves were definitely getting the best of him every time he and Jake made eye contact.
"Whichever you wanna do." Jake said with a smile. Sam nodded, and led him to the back patio and down to the beach.
They both sat in the sand, their arms resting on their knees as the sun beamed down onto them. The waves crashed evenly, Sam just smiled as he always does and took a deep breath. "I've heard about you, no ones really had much to say because they've never talked about you. You're known as the mysterious ocean boy around town." Jake spoke.
"R-Really?" Sam asked, when Jake nodded he looked back to the ocean. "I didn't think people knew me. I-It's my fault really, I just.. don't like being around people. I used to when I saw younger, getting judged and gawked at just wasn't my thing." Sam explained, Jake smiled to him, not an ounce of bad judgement came from the purple haired boy.
"That's okay, I mean. People are pretty sucky. I like you though, you seem really cool." Jake smiled, Sam looked at him and smiled back.
"Th-Thank you.. you're pretty cool yourself, Webber." The blonde smirked. "Wanna swim? You can borrow some of my clothes after and we can dry yours."
"Let's do it." They both stood up and ran into the salty sky blue water, swimming out deeper and deeper but as his father always said- not going past the reef. "Wanna go farther?"
"N-No, we can't. We have to stop at the reef, we're not allowed to go farther. Sharks and stuff are out there.." Sam tried to hide the fear in his voice when he said sharks, not wanting to sound like a weirdo.
"Okay, fair. I'm not too fond of sharks either." He said, they both chuckled and waded in the water where they were. Sam splashed Jake, accidentally at first but a war erupted between the two. Soon after so did laughs, they were having loads of fun.
In that moment, Sam realized he'd finally made a friend. He'd no longer be lonely.
