Awkward

Chapter 7

“You’re Ava, right?” I heard a nasal voice behind me, I frowned and turned around and instantly scowled “I’m—“ she said as she extended her hand with barbie pink, acrylic nails on her fingers.

“Yeah, I know who you are.” I said and crossed my arms over my chest “Something I can do for you?” I said, and was surprised at my sudden boost of confidence, maybe Ashley was finally rubbing off on me; old Ava would never be able to form a coherent sentence in the presence of the oh so great Bianca Thompson. Hence the sarcasm. 

“There is actually.” she said and I raised my eyebrow at her, not really interested in anything she had to say “Stay away from Chase.” she said and I instantly laughed “I know he’s just hanging with you because of that stupid English project and when all this is over he’ll drop you like the loser you are.” 

“Then we have no problem, right?” I said and she frowned “I mean, you said it yourself, it’s just for the project.” I rambled, just so I could get her out of my face, she fake smiled at me

“I’m glad we have an understanding.” she said before walking off

“Yeah, yeah.” I muttered “Stupid air-head.” I heard a chuckle behind me 

“Something bothering you this morning?” Chase said as he stood in front of me with a smirk 

“Yeah it’s just… it doesn’t matter.” I laughed as I waved my hand and he chuckled

“Are you going to sit with us at lunch?” he asked as I shut my locker, I nodded and walked beside him in direction of the cafeteria, once we reached it, he opened the door for me, letting me enter first and then joined me again at my side, I located Ashley who waved me over, I smiled and sat next to her, with Chase on my left.

“God Chase, give the girl some space, she’s not a porcelain doll; she won’t break.” Jason joked, I blushed and looked down at my hands

“Shut up, Owens.” Chase muttered as Jase chuckled and winked at me, causing me to laugh 

“So, are you free today for my rescheduled sleepover?” Ashley said as she glared Chase who only grinned at her, I shrugged

“I guess, I’ll have to ask first.” I said, I felt bad that my mom was alone at the house most of the time since I started hanging out with them, it was always her and I when dad left for his business trips and I was starting to feel a little bit bad. “But I’ll text you.” I added and she nodded but pointed her finger at Chase

“I got her for the day, so hands off buddy.” she warned and I laughed 

“Can I join you? An all girl sleepover sounds perfect to me.” Jase said as he grinned at me “You know, I want to hear what you gossip about me so I might just spy from your window, Ash.” he winked and I looked at Ashley panicked and she waved him off

“Guess it’ll be the perfect time to release the dogs, then.” she said with an innocent smile, Jase put his hand over his heart and pouted

“You wound me.” he said and Ashley gagged

“Stop being a baby and grow a pair, will you? You can live without me for a day just as Chase can live without Ava for a day.” she said, glancing at Chase who was staring at me with a smile on his face, Jase laughed and threw a fry at Chase, who blinked in surprise

“Yo, Chase!” Jase exclaimed “The Love Train reached it’s stop, it’s time to get off!” he laughed and Ashley also cracked a laugh, I only blushed as Chase threw a few colourful words at Jase.

“Mommy?” I said sweetly as I sauntered into the kitchen, she looked at me with an eyebrow raised and an expression that said ‘Get to the point.’ “Can I sleep over at a friend’s house today?” I said with a grin on my face as I wrapped my arms around her neck and hugged her tightly
