Chapter 28: Beginnings and endings

The sound of the alarm jolted Taiji awake, sprawled around were mangas and her laptop beside her.

The sleepy girl rubbed her eyes, where was she?

She picked up the book on her left, the latest manga of Haikyuu.

"Had that all merely been a dream?"

Getting off her bed, Taiji quickly ran out of her room, it couldn't have all been a dream, could it?

"Taiji, Are you awake yet?" Takashi called from the kitchen, "You should wake Taro up and come eat breakfast."

"Please tell me it wasn't a dream." Taiji was frantic, had her relationship with Kuroo only been her imagination? "Where's Kuroo?"

Takashi tilted his head in confusion, "Did you have a fever dream? Who's Kuroo?"

Taiji could feel her world spinning, mixing everything into a blur.

Was Kuroo just a character now?
Had it all just been a dream?

A soft knock on Kuroo's door woke him up, "Wake up Tetsurou, you'll be late for school!"

"Wait a minute," Kuroo's conscious kicked in, "High school?"

Had he dreamed about the future?

After getting dressed in Nekoma's uniform, Kuroo quickly called out to his grandparents before heading out, "I'm heading to get Kenma now."

Something felt off, like there was a missing piece.

"Oh Tetsurou, when will you have a girlfriend?" His grandmother teased, "You spend all your time with Kenma!"

"I'm still trying to work things out with Taeko-san." Kuroo smiled, his mind wandering back to his 'dream'.

This seemed to catch their attention, "Taeko-san? Who's that?"

Kuroo felt his heart drop, "Taeko Taiji? I've been telling you about her since I started high school."

"What are you talking about Tetsurou?"

 "I have to go now,"

The male captain was running, this couldn't have just been in his head.

With Kenma just in sight, Kuroo had to figure things out fast.

"Kenma!" He screamed.

"Hey, Kuroo-"

"Taeko Taiji!" The bedhead grabbed both of Kenma's shoulders, "Do you recognize that name?'

The pudding-head was confused, "Who is that? Is she a game character?"

The captain was disoriented, "She's the captain of the girls' volleyball team? My classmate? I've had a crush on her since we were first years?"

The second-year still had a perplexed look on his face, "We don't know any of the volleyball girls, and the captain isn't from your class, she's from class 1."

Kuroo could feel his skin crawl, this couldn't be true.

As the tall male entered his classroom, there was a different person sitting next to him, not Taiji.

In fact, her desk wasn't even there anymore.

Had Taeko Taiji never existed?
Was she just part of his imagination?

Kuroo woke up, for real this time.

"-we will be beginning our descent to LA in a few minutes, thank you for flying-"

With a breath of relief, Kuroo looked at the background of his phone.

The picture of him and Taiji.

He was glad that he lived in a reality where he got to be with her.

The loud knocking on Taiji's door woke her from her nightmare. With a breath of relief that it was just a dream, she went to open the door.

"I wasn't expecting anyone?" Taiji mumbled, "I hope it isn't those weird people."

Opening the door, the female came face to face with none other than Kuroo Tetsurou.

"Tetsurou? How are you here, why-" Her questions were cut short with Kuroo pulling her into a hug.

"Tetsurou?"

Kuroo remained silent for a moment before pulling away.

"What's going on, Tetsurou?"

Getting on one knee, the bedhead pulled out a ring.

"I had a dream that you didn't exist," Kuroo smiled, "It made me realize that you had become a part of me that I couldn't lose."

"Will you marry me?"

"Hurry Tetsu-Senpai!" Taro pulled the taller man, "Nee-chan will be out soon." 

Kuroo laughed, "Slow down, little dude,"

"But what if people see her and swarm her?"

"We're the only ones here to pick her up, don't worry."

Reaching the gate, Kuroo felt nervous. She would be finally back in Japan after the Olympics and training for years.

Just then, Kuroo's phone buzzed, indicating someone had texted him.

From: Pretty captain
[9:34 p.m]: Turn around

He immediately spun, but there was no one there.

Kuroo felt someone lightly blowing on his ear from behind him.

Turning around, he came face to face with a familiar figure. Her brown hair pulled into a loose ponytail and her eyes forest green. The ring on her finger seemed to glimmer. 

The smile on her lips carried history that few knew about.

"Hey, Tetsurou,"

"Hi, Taiji."
