Chapter 2: Attracted

My sleep was interrupted by a phone call. My brother was Facetiming me, and it was still dark outside. I could see it through the glass window. I sighed. I still wanted to sleep but I had to kick my ass off my own bed, because I had to go to school again. Ugh.
Sliding the green button on the screen, I sat upright on the bed. "Bakit?" I greeted him as soon as his smiling face showed on my phone screen. How come he has that energy at this time of the day?
"Happy birthday Sungit!" He yelled on the screen of his phone. My brother put down his phone to I supposed his study table and stood, dancing in front of it with a cupcake on both of his hands. Hmp, pasaway!
"Thank you, Bwisit!" I laughed at him. Birthday ko na pala? Oh wait! My eyes widened in shock and excitement. I'm officially 18!
My brother walked to get his phone again to have it close on to his face but enough for me to see him. "You're officially a lady. So, may handa ka ba?" He smirked at me. I was not sure kung para saan ang ngisi ni Kuya sa akin.
"Yup, meron. Mommy will cook carbonara mamaya so we can eat it pag-uwi ko from school." I blinked my eyes and yawned, leaning my back on the headboard of the bed. "Are you going home?" I asked him, sounding so hopeful to see him. You can't blame me. It has been two months since the last time he came home. He is currently taking his residency sa isang ospital sa Manila kaya nandoon siya naka-stay.
"I cannot promise you that I'll be there this evening, but I can send my present for you. How's that sound like, hmm?" He smiled at me. I know he is busy, pero at least make time naman 'di ba? I am his sister. However, I still did not show him I was quite disappointed sa possibility na hindi siya makakauwi mamaya.
"That's good! I know you're busy, and I get it." I tried to sound bubbly. Crap, I miss my partner in crime. I miss my only brother. It makes me sad.
"Oh come on, sungit. Hindi bagay sa'yo ang malungkot. Don't be sad na, okay? We still have many birthdays to celebrate with. Busy lang talaga si Kuya ngayon. Mag-smile ka na d'yan," he said with a huge smile on his face. I think he is making fun of my sad face. I rolled my eyes at him on the phone.
"Okay, I gotta go. I still have to enroll later this morning kaya gagayak na ako. See you when I see you!"
"Alright, Sungit. I need to study too. Good luck to you," he smiled at me, blinking his now visible sleepy eyes. "Happy 18th birthday Francesca Josefina!" He laughed out loud, and he even moved the phone closer to his mouth so I could hear it clearly.
What the hell?!
"Francisco Jose!" I shouted at him then the FaceTime call ended while he was still laughing at me.
Err. I really do not like it when I am being called by my given name so I send him a message saying: "Not welcome! Do not come home!!" with an angry emoji.
My phone beeps. At first, I thought it was my brother but it was from my high school friends, who were greeting me a happy birthday, Sungit.
I smiled and thanked them one by one.

After I finished taking shower and getting dressed, I went down into the kitchen to have my breakfast. I honestly cannot go on the day without having my breakfast first and taking my medicines. Mom and Dad always remind me and my siblings to eat breakfast because it is the important meal of the day.
The smell of the freshly fried bacon, egg, hotdog and garlic rice wafted to the stairway from the whole dining room. My tummy growled and I gulped when my saliva started forming inside my mouth.
