I sat there, staring at Cook for what felt like forever, still trying to process everything I've been told. In honesty, I was scared for him, he killed someone. He killed someone for me. He sat there, waiting to see if I spoke first, "Cook, what are we supposed to do?" I asked, not wanting to just tell him to fuck off and figure it out himself, I couldn't imagine doing that to him.
"Come with me, I'm leaving Bristol," He told me, I gave him a shocked look, causing him to straighten up a little bit, "I'm serious, we go to London and get a flat or somethin' some how, hide out, stay away from here, from everyone."
"No, I know you're serious," Said, "But, I can't just drop everything and leave... What about Effy? Freds, all of 'em?"
Cook stood up, "We don't need 'em! We need each other, you know this," He reached down, holding both my hands, "I told you, it's always going to be Ava and Cook."
"Cook..."
He kneeled down in front of me, his hands now on my knees, "Ava, please," He was speaking quietly again, "Are you going to tell me that all this time you haven't felt anything for me? Even now?"
I put my hands on his face, staring into his eyes; all this time, even with my trying to swear him off, I still felt something for him, "You're right about that, at least," I said to him softly.
A smile formed on the corners of his mouth, "Why not just say fuck it and run off with me then?" He put his hands on mine, squeezing them, "You could go to university, you can do whatever the fuck you want, as long as I get to see you do it."
"Cook, I don't know," I was considering it, "I can't just drop my life, leave everyone behind, it doesn't feel right."
"The first time we ran off together, you dropped it all and left with me," He mentioned, but I didn't say anything, I just let out a sigh, "It's only 2 hours away, you can come home whenever you want."
I finally went to speak up, but then there was a soft knock at the door, "Ava, you here?" I heard Effy say from the other side of the door.
"Oh, fuck," I whispered before I shoved Cook to stand behind my wardrobe door; once he was out of sight I unlocked and opened my door. "Uh- hi, Eff, alright?"
She nodded, "Yeah... You alright? You just kind of took off at the party," She was trying to peek over my shoulder, "Are you and Freddie alright?"
"I mean, yeah, he's being a bit distant lately, but nothing is going on."
"Cook here?"
I itched the back of my neck, "What? What would make you say that?"
"Just assuming," She had a smug look on her face before she chuckled, "Oh, that and I could hear you two from the hall, it was real cute," She gave me that classic Effy smirk.
I let out a sigh, looking over my shoulder as Cook stepped out, he approached Effy and I, "Eff, I've got some things to think about," I told her. She gave me a disappointed look before she crossed her arms.
"Thinking about running away?" She asked, then she looked at Cook, "Do it, get out of here. Hell, you'll do a lot better out there," She put a hand on my shoulder, "I am your sister and I'm telling you to do it, okay? You've obviously still have feelings for Cook here. I told you he was your speed," She looked over to Cook for a moment, "Just make sure you two say goodbye first, if it all happens.
I watched as she walked away, then I quickly closed the door, locking it again, as I turned around, I was caught off guard by Cook placing his hands on the door that was behind me, he looked down at me longingly, "What are you waiting for?" He whispered to me.
"Cook," I said quietly, "My life's always been here."
"Oh, come on, baby! Com on, it's obvious what you've always wanted, it's me..." His hand moved from the door to my waist, he pulled me closer, our hips now touched, he dipped down; our faces level with one another, "You want me, baby."
I nervously cleared my throat, looking straight at him, into his eyes. My breath grew heavier as I felt his hand brush against my neck, I couldn't speak, and honestly, I had no idea what was going on in my head and that scared me. The longer I stared at him, the more confused I grew. I really was at a loss for words.
