EMBERS • HAECHAN (Not Finished Yet)

Chapter 6

There were only a few minutes left until break and I played restlessly with my pen. Every few seconds, my eyes glanced over to one of the boys, who unfortunately attended the same music course as I did.

Normally it was one of my favourite lessons of the week, but since the freshmen had joined, stifling and tense air hovered in the room.

At least there were only four of them: Huang Renjun, Mark Lee, Zhong Chenle and Lee Donghyuk.

They didn't have to introduce themselves so that I knew their names.
DRGNS had personal files on each of them, which were known among all our gang members.

Of course, we also had the same files for SVT.

Tensly my eyes wandered back to the clock that hung directly in the front right corner.

Since the beginning of the lesson I had an unusually hectic feeling.
It felt as if my heart was beating three times faster than the regular ticking of the clock. My breaths were short while a warm tingling sensation filled my body.

The more often I looked in the direction of the boys, the more intense this uncontrollable feeling became.

I did not like it.

I had experienced a similar feeling right after the event from two years ago, but never this strong...
It was completely new and anything but pleasant.

At last the longed-for bell rang and I stood up energetically to pack my things.

"Sunghee," I suddenly heard Momo calling my name and she rushed into the classroom not a moment later.

"What is it?" I glanced at the girl and noticed that she was dragging Mina behind her.

"Could you do me a favor and show Mina around the school? I'd do it, but I have to go to my dance class."

She looked at me with the sweetest and most innocent puppy eyes ever, whereupon I raised my hands defeated.

"All right, but you're buying me ice cream."

"You bet I will! I love you!"

With those words, she gave me a little peck on the cheek and sprinted out of the room. So I was  alone with Mina and gave her a smile.

"So, let's go explore the school."

Shortly afterwards I hooked up with the reserved girl and could feel that she was warming up a bit.
It must have been hard being the new girl, especially when you were alone.

We walked together towards the door of the room, but I heard someone calling my name again. This time it was not from one of my classmates, but from my music teacher.

"How can I help you?," I asked her politely and stood in front of the teacher's desk.

"I have just heard that you want to show Mina our school. I'm just looking for people who could show individual groups of the new students around. Would you take one of them while you're at it?"

"Sure," I smiled nicely, "which group should I take?"

Miss Lee gave me a little piece of paper and a few seconds later my smile immediately disappeared .

Without hesitation I put the note on the desk and pushed it back in her direction.

"Over my dead body," I pressed my lips together and shook my head hastily.

Not noticing, the unknown and indefinable feeling returned and sent a cold shiver down my spine.

"Sunghee I beg you, I have already asked other students, but so far all of them have refused. You are my last hope."

She looked at me with pleading eyes, but I shook my head again.

"I'll take another group anytime, but not these seven."

"I can only ask you one more time. Soyeon has already taken over another group, and besides her, you seem to be the only person who doesn't shy away from them. You're tough."

I looked down in silence and rubbed my fingers over my eyelids.
She was right...
I wouldn't want to send another girl near them, especially without any knowledge of self-defense.

"Fine," I sighed and looked up into the bright eyes of my teacher. "But you owe me."

"Agreed," she grinned immediately. "You should meet your group at the entrance in 30 minutes, thank you very very much."

A short time later she disappeared and I was left alone with Mina.

"Everything alright?" she asked confused after noticing my clenched fists and jaw.

"Yes," I lied to her without blinking.
