I thought of this last night as I listened to May It Be and I was reading a songfic. I know I did a Lindir oneshot not too long ago, but I thought this was so fitting for him.

Word count: 1,147 words

You and Lindir looked at your daughter, Duvainiell. To you, she was the cutest elf to ever be seen. It was time for her to go to bed, and she stood in front of you, clutching her stuffed rabbit, Lúthien. The rabbit was named Lúthien because Duvainiell loved the story of Beren and Lúthien.

The elfling complained about not wanting to sleep, and that she couldn't go to sleep. Lindir thought for a brief moment to figure out what would put his daughter to sleep.

"Aha... a lullaby." Lindir said. "Come on, get to bed, Duvainiell."

The elfling girl pouted. "But I don't want to, ada." she protested.

"Duvainiell, you must go to bed. You need to have energy tomorrow so you can play with your friends." you said.

You and your husband walked Duvainiell into her room. She climbed onto bed and you made sure that she was warm and comfortable in her blanket.

After thinking for a while about what song to sing to your daughter, you chose May It Be. It was slow and it was a beautiful song. Hopefully, your daughter would be eased to sleep by the song.

Duvainiell looked up at you, prepared for the song you and Lindir were to sing.

You:
May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you

The little one smiled. You hadn't sung this song to her before and she loved it when you sang new songs to her.

This song was made back in the times where Middle-earth was in danger. Back when The Fellowship of the Ring left to destroy The One Ring, to restore hope in the world.

Duvainiell didn't know it, as she was not born at the time, but you were scared during those times. It was a trying time. Many died, many were haunted with memories that would stay with them for the rest of their life. But, amid the chaos, you still tried to find hope.

And the hope that you ended up finding was in Lindir. You two were married for a couple of centuries at the time, and he was your light when all lights went out for you.

Lindir:
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true

It seemed that darkness had already fallen, as Sauron and his forces were defeated. When you had heard the news of Sauron's defeat, you had realized that it is definitely worth still having hope in this world.

You hoped that your child will have hope in even the darkest situation. The world is still worth hoping for.

You remembered that every night, Lindir calmed you down by saying, "One less day until darkness shall fall." before you went to sleep. Even though it didn't seem much, it made you feel that it was still highly possible that the light will defeat the dark once and for all.

Smiling at Lindir, you held his hand. When he finished singing the lines, he looked at you with joy.

Both:
You walk a lonely road
Oh! How far you are from home

Neither of you left Imladris during the War of the Ring. That was because it was slightly risky to leave, and none of you were meant to be warriors, so you can't really fight in a war.

But, your mind was away from home. And so was Lindir's.

You remembered the times that you two would dance your anxieties away. Sometimes the dancing was good, other times it was bad, and other times it was so random that any person or elf who saw it may not consider it dancing.

It didn't matter that the dancing was bad, though. All that mattered was that you and Lindir were having a good time. And that you were having fun together.

Lindir took your hands while singing the song, and you two sort of swayed.

You:
Mornië utúlië
Believe and you will find your way

You knew exactly what "mornië utúlië" meant. It means something along the lines of "darkness has come" in Quenya. Despite speaking Sindarin, you also knew some Quenya.

Lindir didn't really know Quenya, so you decided to sing all that is in Quenya.

As you two swayed, you decided to wrap your arms around Lindir's neck, and he wrapped his around your waist.

You:
Mornië alantië
A promise lives within you now

"Mornië alantië" meant something like "darkness has fallen". And it was true, as the darkness had fallen a long time ago. And you hoped that none more will come, as you don't want your child to go through the times of darkness that you went through.

Nobody deserves to live through dark times, unless you are just pure evil. You were ever so grateful for the Fellowship and those who battle against the dark forces of Sauron.

As you and Lindir continued to sway together, Duvainiell was growing weary. It seemed that she was going to fall asleep soon.

Lindir:
May it be the shadow's call
Will fly away

Thankfully, no shadows or great evil called out to any of you. You only worried about darkness winning and the world never seeing any light anymore.

During those times, the only one calling to you was Lindir, and he called you to spend time with you, not to overcome you.

You:
May it be your journey on
To light the day

You have told tales about the times to Duvainiell and she was very frightened. She was afraid that a darkness might return. But you assured her that the dark times are over and that there is no need to worry.

When you went to bed, you stayed up most of the night wondering, "What if darkness did return?"

However, based on the world today, it didn't seem that it was.

Both:
When the night has overcome
You may rise to find the sun

As you sang with Lindir, you realized that your elfling might take the lyric literally. She might stay up all night trying to find the sun because she doesn't want to sleep.

You:
Mornië utúlië
Believe and you will find your way
Mornië alantië
A promise lives within you now

Duvainiell closed her eyes as you sung. She appeared very tired, which was good. You and Lindir stopped swaying to face your daughter.

Both:
A promise lives within you now

The elfling seemed to be asleep. You and Lindir kissed her forehead.

"Sweet dreams, iell nin." you whispered.

As you and your husband left the room, you were holding hands. It was late, so you decided to go to bed. Right before you closed your eyes, Lindir took your arms, wrapped them around his waist, and kissed your head.

"I love you." he whispered.

"I love you, too." you whispered back. You slept comfortably in your husband's warm arms. It felt nice to sleep peacefully again.

That's all. I actually thought that this one was going to be short, but it turned out to be one of my longest ones. I always try to pass the 1,000 word mark, though.

Novaer, mellyn nin!
