Zero days until Han Jisung's Birthday

Fancy was blaring out of Jisung's phone's speakers, causing him to wake up instantly. He groaned. He had barely gotten any sleep in anticipation of his birthday. Then he realized. He shot out of bed, not thinking about the possibility of giving himself a head rush. He dug around on his night table and grabbed his glasses. He quickly put them on and looked down at his hand. The string was still there, meaning he had a soulmate. He let out a sigh of relief.

"When is it gonna connect? Please don't tell me my soulmate is younger than me. I don't think I can wait any longer." He spoke to himself. He paced around his room until his parents barging into his room interrupted him. "Happy birthday, Jisungie!" They both yelled, causing him to get startled and fall to the floor. His dad laughed before going over to check on him. He helped him up and pulled him into an enormous hug.

"How's the birthday boy feeling this fine morning?" He asked. "I'll answer once you let go." Jisung responded, gasping for air since his dad held him tightly. "Whoops. Sorry, son." He chuckled. "I'm feeling nervous and excited. Also, exhausted. I hardly got any sleep last night." He answered. His mom frowned. "Oh, dear. Maybe you should sleep a little more. You can afford to miss a little bit of class." She suggested.

Jisung shook his head. "Nuh-uh. I wanna hang out with my friend and I might meet my soulmate! I won't be able to sleep if I'm thinking about that. On any other day, I would gladly accept that offer." He rejected the idea. "Alright honey. Breakfast is almost done, come down when you're ready." She smiled. He nodded and smiled as they left his room. His mind raced as he scrambled over to his closet. He wanted to do more research on the red string but he knew he didn't have much time.

He quickly got a decent outfit together and rushed into the bathroom. After having a quick shower and getting ready, he had a debate on whether or not he should wear his glasses. When he usually wore his contacts, his eyes would get red and would hurt because he would accidentally leave them in for too long. He decided he would wear his glasses only because he didn't want to deal with taking them out today.

He walked downstairs after grabbing his bag and greeted his parents again. He set his bag on the bench as usual and sat down at the dining table. Jisung was obviously excited to potentially meet his soulmate, but he was also excited for when he got home from school. His parents would always get him cheesecake, which he absolutely adored. He wished he could have it right then and there, but he knew that would never happen. Soon the breakfast was ready and they all ate and talked as usual.

Jisung finished pretty quickly and quickly brought his dishes to the sink as always. "What's the rush?" His father asked, chuckling as he saw his son running around as if he were late. "I don't know. I'm just really antsy right now." He answered. "I can see that. Relax, Sung. It's your birthday."

Jisung sighed. "I know. I'm just stressed. What if I have to wait longer for my soulmate? What if my string falls off? what if-" He was cut off. "Things will be fine. It won't be that big of a deal if you have to wait longer. And if your string falls off, so what? It's not like you won't be able to find someone who you love and loves you back." He reassured his son. "I guess you're right." He replied. He checked the time on his phone. "Shit, I gotta get going. Thanks for the talk, dad." He smiled.

"Watch your language! But you're welcome. Have a great day." Jisung's father said before giving him a warm smile. Jisung smiled back and rushed over to the front door. He quickly grabbed his backpack and slid it on, before putting on his shoes. "Bye mom, bye dad! I'll see you after school!" He shouted, getting a response from both of them. He quickly went out the door.

He speed-walked down the sidewalk, not bothering to put in his earphones as he made his way down the street. He saw Felix exit his house, and Jisung charged at his friend. "FELIXXXX!" He yelled, alerting the latter. He grinned, running to Jisung. "Happy birthday, Mate!" Felix shouted.

"Thanks!! My string hasn't connected to anyone yet. What if it won't??" Jisung complained. "You didn't know? You have to at least see your soulmate in order for it to connect. I think there was more to it, but I can't remember." He told him. "That would've been really useful if you had told me that before." He glared at his friend. "Well, I thought you knew." He defended.

They made it to the bus stop just in time, because the bus just arrived. They walked onto the bus and made their way to their seat. "So, Jisung. I got you a present! Do you wanna open it now?" Felix asked, gesturing to his bag. "I want to, but I should probably wait until lunch when the others give me my presents as well." He declined the offer. " Okay, makes sense." He smiled.

"I'm still confused about the string. What if the soulmates lived very far away from each other? How would they see their soulmate then? And what if my string falls off?" He questioned. "If you didn't have a soulmate, your string would've fallen off by now. It falls off the second your birthday begins. And no one knows how it works. The soulmates just always end up meeting. I've even heard stories about soulmates who lived in separate countries. One of them just happened to be visiting the other's country. It's so strange." He replied. "Well, it's good to know I at least have a soulmate. What if my soulmate is from a different country?" He wondered.

The two continued to discuss soulmates excitedly until they arrived at school. They wandered into the school, Jisung scanning the hallways and looking down at his hand. He walked to his locker, unlocking it quickly and shoving his things inside. He went with Felix to his locker, wanting any excuse to walk around with the chance of meeting his soulmate. They continued to chat about who their possible soulmates could be.

Eventually, the bell rang and they had to go separate ways. Jisung headed to his class, his mind racing. He walked into the loud classroom and sat at his desk. When class started, Jisung could barely focus. He tried his best to focus but of course, it was no use. He just doodled on his paper, wishing the class would just finish already. He glanced back at Minho. The older was completely focused on his work. He huffed. The blonde kind of missed the older's pestering, it made the class go by faster.

But eventually, the class came to an end when the bell rang. He quickly stood up, grabbing his things. Because he stood up so fast, however, it caught Minho off guard and the older bumped into the younger. Jisung quickly apologized before pushing his chair in and heading out of the class. As he walked down the hall, he looked down at his hand. The blonde's dark brown eyes widened. His string was connected to someone.

He felt a rush of excitement. He looked around the hall, to see who it was. But he, unfortunately, couldn't spot them. He huffed. When did it connect? How did he not notice? Jisung was frustrated. He entered the library, his mind racing with thoughts and questions. He opened his phone, searching up more about the string.

He ended up reading that the two soulmates had to have had some sort of physical contact in order for their strings to connect. He tried to think of something that had happened like that but the incident with Minho didn't even cross his mind. He wanted to text one of his friends, but he didn't want to disturb them in class. The squirrel-like boy sighed. Whoever it was, he'd find them soon.
