Close To You

When I touch something
The atoms in my hand haven't actually come in contact with
Those of the item I'm supposedly touching.

The electrons get close but they still
Only manage to whiz past each other
As the atoms meander vaguely toward each other
And a charge is exchanged between fields

The only way two atoms could fully touch,
Their nuclei knocking together,
would be by strong force
fueled by an enormous amount of energy.

The atoms would have to be thrown together

And the explosion would be so powerful it could
run a nuclear power plant.

That is the only way.
They cannot meet without
Utter chaos ensuing

When I touch you,
no matter how hard I squeeze you,
no matter how deep I let you thrust inside of me,
I never feel fully satisfied.
I want to be closer.
I can feel your breath on my neck
Taste the salt on your skin
Feel the sharp pain of your nails digging into my back
But I want to be closer.

We might blow up this city like a nuclear bomb
But I can't help but feel it would all be worth it
For one second I would be close to you
