NINE | WHISPERS OF THE PAST

Arabella Mikaelson came into this world by her parent's having high expectations of her. They expected Arabella to bring grace to her name, incidentally why they named her "Grace" as her middle name. She was the last to be born, after Henrik - the second youngest. It was no doubt Arabella was beautiful, even as a child. She had gorgeous red silky hair and striking hazel eyes. It was a wonder where exactly Arabella had gotten her hair color, but Mikael said something along the lines of 'having a sister with matching hair color.'

Arabella as a child, was a rather mischievous. Always willing to break the rules or at least bend them.

"Niklaus, Niklaus!" A 10 year old Arabella shouted out to her older brother, who was older and wiser than her.

"What is it, Arabella?" He asked, annoyed by his sister.

"I was wondering if - only if you want to, of course - maybe if that we could - if you want - to possibly go out for a walk and practice sword fighting?" She asked, tripping over her words.

Niklaus raised his eyebrows toward his youngest sister. "And what did father and mother say?"

"Uhm, well I haven't really asked--"

"Then why do you bother me?" Niklaus snapped. Arabella blinked rapidly, trying not to cry.

"It's just that we really never get to spend time together," Arabella remarked in a quiet voice. "I'm sorry I've upset you."

"Good," he stated, and walked away as if he were the ruler of the lands.

Her brother's egotistical, snappy attitude did stop Arabella. She had become very well at stealing, or pick-pocketing, without anyone's notice. Arabella was able to steal her brother's sword, and she smirked a bit at the welded blade.

"His fault," she muttered to herself.

Niklaus should have known something was up with Arabella, for she was never one to back down or shy away. Niklaus was too proud about telling off his sister to notice his sword was stolen and that his sister was acting off.

Arabella hid the sword under her coat and ran off to a meadow. She soon discovered a clearing, a beautiful one. With flowers blooming and a waterfall crashing down, she thought of it a perfect place to practice.

Arabella hadn't never swung such a sword, but have seen her brothers practice and her father hunt. She noticed the techniques and the agility needed, for she was a very observant child. Arabella walked up to the nearest tree and began to swing forcefully at it. The sword hit the bark, and the sword vibrated causing Arabella to drop the weapon and clutch her hand.

"Ouch! Bloody sword," She murmured and picked up Niklaus' sword.

Arabella repeatedly swung at the tree's bark, chipping off a few stray pieces and making small indents. She soon got used to the vibration feeling that happened when she struck the tree. Even though it had been a few short hours, Arabella had gotten good, at least at swinging at a tree.

Arabella looked up at the sun, and realized she was late for dinner. Worried that she might get caught, she scrambled back into her village and put back Niklaus' sword in his usual place. She ran into the hut where dinner was held and saw her whole family looking at her.
