Kurt Frank is one hell of an unusual man. At least that's what Jose Baden thought during his first few days in the manor when he had just met the adventurer. How could a 28 years old man with a fully grown goatee act so much like an innocent child? That's what Jose told himself as he tried to not get attached to the "explorer". That is until he talked one time about one of his many adventures in the sea, not seeing that Kurt was in that room, listening to every detail of the story. When Jose talked about how the British queen thought that his father stole her treasures, Kurt immediately came up with a possible solution for the problem. Jose was impressed when Kurt ended it with the words "But she probably won't do that. Why? Because she's royalty, and these guys think that they are always right.".

Finally, someone who agreed with him.

Ever since that day, Kurt and Jose became good friends. Jose got to learn about Kurt's past- his time in his army and his mental illness (But that mostly from Naib and Emily). He was inspired by Kurt's optimistic attitude,  even though the man has been through a lot. The way his eyes shined whenever Jose talked about his adventures was adorable. Jose began to see the man as his younger sibling. He became protective over him during matches, always took the hit for him, and always rescued him.

However, Jose didn't know that something from his past could be in this stupid game as well. This hunter... well, technically, they were two people, but they went as one. They were known as "Wu Chang". Both Jose and Kurt knew about the legend of the two- how Xie Bi'an went to get an umbrella and arrived when Fan Wuiju has already drowned. Of how the white guard grieved over his dead friend, and how he left the umbrella where he died before disappearing. However, Jose knew one tiny detail about that umbrella-

It was one of the items that were on the ship that vanished along with his father.

And right now, these two were chasing after the first officer, targeting him and him alone. Only one cipher was left, with only two other survivors other than Jose remaining- William, who was a famous athlete until he got injured, and Kurt. The thing is that William SUCKED at decoding the ciphers, yet he could stun the hunters by running into them. However, he seemed to be decoding. Yet Kurt was nowhere to be found. Their other teammate, Naib, started the game close to the hunters, getting him sent back to the mansion first.

Before he knew it, Jose saw death. All his loved ones, laying around him. Some were in a grousome state, while others just laid in a pool of blood, with all their organs still attached. These assholes got into his head. Yet, he kept running.

"Oh, poor Jose Baden." Fan Wuiju grinned darkly as he chased after the man. "Why are you running? We can help you see your daddy again~"

Lies.

"We still remember his expression when he drowned." Xie Bi'an added. "He was bleeding from that stab wound that Wuiju gave him. He tried calling your name, but you weren't there."

"You were in Liverpool, Jose Baden." Fan Wuiju said, his grin growing bigger. "You were in Liverpool while he died."

T-they're lying, They gotta be.

Jose fell to the ground, holding his head and covering his ears, eyes squeezed shut. He couldn't hear the sound of the gate opening over his wheezes and pants. When he reopened his eyes, he no longer saw death, but Xie Bi'an charging an attack. They were obviously planning on leaving him bleeding to his own death. For the first time in his life, Jose felt like giving up. He sighed and looked at the ground, waiting for the inevitable pain. Xie Bi'an landed the hit, making Jose bleed as he falls down. The two guardians assumed that the others have exit through the gate, so they walked away. He never really expected that the last thing he'd smell is a mix of blood with the smell of the grass. He expected it to smell like a hospital, or the ocean. He laid there, unable to move, as his vision started to blur.

"Jose!" He suddenly heard. Then, footsteps. Not those of Xie Bi'an or Fan Wuiju, but... a normal running. A man crouched next to him. The blue shirt, the backpack... it was Kurt. He quickly put down his bag and took out a first aid kit.

"Kurt, just go." Jose said as Kurt started to patch him up. "I'll be fine."

That's when he noticed the man's expression. It was a familiar one to Jose, but he never saw it on Kurt's face. The feeling of anxiety, of failure... of a bad memory you want to forget. He almost forgot that Kurt was also in the army with Naib, and that they were some of the few who made it out alive after the war.  Kurt knew he was bleeding badly. Jose decided to remain silent as Kurt quickly treated his wounds, just enough for him to stand up and be able to walk.

"It'll be enough for you to get to the gate." Kurt said as Jose got up. The two of them began running towards the gate. Kurt was running behind Jose to make sure that he gets to safety before him. It didn't take too long for the Wu Chang to realize that Jose didn't die, but they have arrived too late, for the two survivors were already out of the gate.

When they were far enough from there, Kurt stopped, and immediatly hugged Jose. He was crying on his shoulder, holding on to the man like a frightened little kid and sobbing uncontrollably. It hurt Jose to see him like this. Not like his injuries, but still hurt.  Jose hugged him back, letting him cry on his shoulder and rubbing his back in circles.

"This game is probably the worst adventure we ever had, huh?" Jose chuckled when Kurt finally calmed down.

"It sucks." Kurt replied.

"Thanks for saving me back there." Jose said. "I mean, these two have some history with my dad, so obviously they wanted me dead. You didn't really have to save me."

"You're my best friend, man." Kurt replied, giving Jose a small smile as he finally lets go of the hug. "Of course I'd save you."

Jose smiled, using his hand to rub Kurt's hair and messing it a little.

"You're my best friend too, Kurt." Jose said softly. "Now come on. William is probably worried sick about us."

"Either that or he's making dinner." Kurt laughed, as they both started to walk back to the mansion.
