The Message

'of course you can!' smiled katara, but aang rubbed his mark off, saying,

'no, you can't trust me.'

he backed away, hanging his head low.

'aang, what are you talking about.' i said, walking towards them.

'a messenger gave this to me for bato.'

he was holding the scroll.

so that's why he looked cold.

'you have to understand,' he continued, 'i was afraid you'd -'

'this is the map to our father! you had it the whole time!? how could you? well, you can go to the north pole on your own! i'm going to find dad. come on katara, y/n you're coming too' said sokka walking away.

katara turned around, going with him.

'y/n come on, we're going' said sokka, looking straight at me and taking my hand

'i cant' i said, letting go.

'why?' he asked, hurt.

'i need to stay with aang.'

he scoffed, 'what? and you'd rather stay with a liar than help me find my father?'

bato, aang, and katara stepped away, leaving us to argue.

'yes. i would.' i shouted, 'i need to stay with aang no matter what!'

he looked hurt and said angrily, 'what about me? i need you there!'

'sokka i cant be there! im sorry but i need to go north.'

'DONT YOU GET HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS? OR DO YOU NOT CARE?'

'OF COURSE I CARE! BUT I CANT BE THERE ALL THE TIME! I HAVE TO GO NORTH'

sokka turned around, burying his head in his hands and snapping back, 'i wish id never kissed you'

i took a step back.

'fine'

i walked over to aang who looked terrified and took his hand, dragging him away as sokka took katara and bato back to the abbey.

we sat down on the shore once theyd disappeared and i broke down.

'im so stupid' i said, throwing air into the sea

as i screamed i threw more and more in until i felt aangs hand on my shoulder.

'y/n stop'

i fell to my knees - the tide going in and out next to me.

my mind raced, going to one thing, then another, then to sokka, then to another thing, then to sokka again.

i sat down and looked up at aang.

'im sorry. how am i supposed to protect you if i let stupid things like that get in the way'

he sat down next to me.

'you're doing exactly what you're supposed to' he said, calmly.

'no im not!' i said, 'im not even telling you the whole truth.'

aang looked at me, confused.

'what do you mean?'

'do you remember when zuko kidnapped me?' i asked, 'he burned me. and zhao just made it worse. i didn't tell you and im sorry. im so sorry i can't protect you like im supposed to. '

'y/n don't apologise.' he said, hugging me, 'come on, let's go'

we walked into the courtyard and aang said goodbye to katara while i waited on appa.
