While walking through the woods the walkers appear more randomly, the cluster of them even spread out. Though you can't really tell if that's true or not with your vision being a bit blurry as Dary pulls you with him as he jogs. You can feel your right pant leg sticking to your leg from the blood that is seeping out of your knee.
When Daryl thinks you are both far enough away from the group of walkers to stop, he leans you up against a tree. He steps back to keel over and takes deep breaths with his hands on his knees.
"We're, um," you breathe in resting your head against the tree, "we're not gonna lose them." you close your eyes for a second as you try to put your weight on your left leg to use your hands to take your belt off.
"There's gotta be someplace to lie low for a bit." You look down as you fiddle with your belt buckle while trying to balance on your left leg. "There's only two of us, they might leave af'er they can't see us."
"Not if one of us is bleeding." You get the buckle undone and start pulling your belt off.
Daryl straightens up just to look down at your knee. He hadn't noticed that it was bleeding. He thought the bone was merely displaced and needed to be shifted back. You hand your belt to him. He looked past the tree at the walkers that aren't that far away. He wraps the belt around your right thigh and pulls it tight. He wraps the belt twice running it through the buckle both times then ties the rest of the belt off.
"We'll find someplace ta lie low." Daryl says as he puts your left arm over his shoulders again, starting to walk as the walkers inch a little closer, "You'll be fine."
. . .
The hours fuzz together as Daryl and you walk through the woods. You don't even mind the growls of the walkers anymore. The sky is a pretty orange color with the sunset just over your right shoulder. Your right leg below your knee is numb and you don't mind that either.
You're knocked out of your trance by your body being moved all of a sudden as Daryl quickly moves to kill a walker. You look to the left of Daryl and see five more walkers moving towards him.
"Shit." Is all Daryl says before he moves his right hand from your side to your back and swiftly moves his left arm under your legs and picks you up. He holds you bridal style as he turns to the right and starts to run.
. . .
Despite Daryl running back to the road the walkers are still close. The sky is almost like a dark grey now with the only source of light being the moon above you and Daryl. You can see the group of walkers that Daryl just ran form only feet away from you both.
Daryl stops in the middle of the road and almost staggers backwards. You turn to see walkers on the other side of the road. Daryl turns to face West where there are walkers on the road as well, they hobble closer, drawn by the sound of the others and the blood that still dips down your leg. You look East and see that there aren't as many walkers that way.
'Better chance that way.' You think, but your attention goes back to your bleeding leg. 'These things with follow the scent of blood.' You look at Daryl, who's gripping your right thigh and upper side tightly. You slightly smile at the feeling of him not wanting to let you go.
"Leave me." Daryl's grips slightly losens. "I'm slowing you down and if I'm right, with my bleeding leg, they are more likely to follow me." He peers down at you with his blue eyes. "The road is a little clearer East," you shift in his arms, lifting your right leg and taking it out of his grip so he'll put you down, "you go that way and I'll lead them back into the woods."
You have thought about death many times, about the pain you'll feel from the biting and tearing of your flesh, about the stillness you'll feel when the pain is gone, about if you'll move on or be trapped in your undead body as you walker around eating people. You blame yourself for letting your mother die, for letting her turn, for not killing her and ending the monstrous thing she had became. Death is what you've wanted since you watched what happened to her.
You are weakly standing on your left leg with Daryl's right hand still on your side. You pull your knives out of their holders on your pants and try to hand them to Daryl. You look around to see the walkers are only a few small feet away from you both.
You press your knives to his chest; "You'll need then more than me." He avoids your eyes. "They are good knives, easy to throw-"
"I'm not gonna take'em (Y/N)." He looks in your eyes as he says; "I'm not leavin' you ta die." He pushes your hands back to you, "We'll kill'em together."
"There's over thirty of them and it's dark."
"That's a'ight." Daryl turns his back to you and pulls his knife out and takes down the walker closest to him. You follow suit, turn and kill the first walker closest to you, without falling to your surprise.
. . .
You've killed five walkers, lost two of your knives in the process but you're still standing. Daryl has killed eight of the walkers in front of him and the walkers coming at both of you from the West.
You shift backward hobbling to stay on your foot, the throbbing in your tired leg getting worse. Not to mention that the stabbing pain around your right kneecap is back and making you regret leaving Alexandria in the first place.
While you're destracted by the pains in your legs a walker gets within inches of you and knocks you to the ground. You hold the walker up with your left arm as you try to minuver your right arm to get your knife in its head. You almost have the knife to its head when more weight falls on top of you. Most of the added weight lands on your legs making your right leg straighten and the stabbing pain in your right kneecap amplify.
You jam your knife into the walker's head as you yell out in pain. You shift under the dead walker to find another laying ontop inching closer and closer to your exposed left side. You try to side up but the dead walker ontop of you is a fat one making it hard for your to move any more than your right arm and head.
You start to panic, your breathing shortens and your heart races as you feel the walker shift its weight more towards your side. Then the weight stops shifting. You look to see where Daryl is and he's still a few feet away from you stabbing walker after walker as they come at him.
"Come help me move these things." You here a muffled voice holler.
The weight of the dead walkers is moved off of you and your arms are pulled so you sit up. You look around to see who was there and you see Jesus and Rick. Jesus pulls you the rest of the way up, then him and Rick each take an arm to help you stand. They turn and walk towards a car that's sitting not far down the road with its headlights broken.
"Daryl." You say as you turn your head to find him. Jesus rubs your lowers arm and says; "Michonne is with him, they'll take care of the walkers."
They continues walking to the car, Rick helps Jesus put you in the back seat of the car then runs to help Michonne and Daryl finish up the walkers. Your legs and resting on the seats as you practically lay on Jesus.
Jesus shifts so you are laying across his lap with your back on the door so he can move a little closer to your right knee. He takes his knife out and makes the whole big enough to see your whole knee. You look at your knee as well. The skin on your knee is ripped open with part of your kneecap sticking out along with the tendent that is supposed to hold it in place. Jesus pulls the hole in your jeans closed and shifts back to where he was sitting.
"How long ago did that happen?" The glowing from the walkers dies down from outside the car.
"A few hours ago," you grimus as your kneecap tenses from the stabbing pain around it, "it hurts like a some of a bitch." The muscles stop tensing and you feel move blood gush down your leg, "Hasn't stopped bleeding yet either."
The car shift back and forth as Michonne, Rick, and Daryl get into the car. Daryl sits in the back, cautiously moving your legs into his lap. Rick starts the car and starts driving towards Alexandria.
"She need to be taken to your doctor."
