Chapter 12| Wedding

Sangeet night ended soon after the last performance of Ahana and Neil. That night everyone slept peacefully and excited waiting for the next day to come, While our Bride and groom were tensed. Some poeple can say it was the normal wedding nervousness but Ahana and Neil knew it was way more then that.

Next morning came. Everyone was busy preparing for the Haldi ceremony that will be taking place in few mins. Haldi is a ceremony in which the bride and the groom, both are made to sit while their family members apply Haldi, Also known as turmeric on them. People say that haldi makes your skin glow on the wedding day. The haldi is first applied to the groom before they take it to the bride's house and apply the bride to the same haldi.

As per the rituals, Neil was sitting in a stools while everyone one by one came and applied the turmeric paste on him while giving him blessing. After everyone was done, Neil was sent in his room to freshen up while Sid and the kids headed out to Singh house to deliver the remaining haldi.

As the Haldi arrived at Singh house, the ceremony began for Ahana. She was sitting in the middle on a stool while everyone one by one came and applied haldi on her. Even the kids had fun applying haldi on their mother before leaving back home. As Everyone finished Ahana was sent to her room to freshen up and rest for a bit.

Few hours passed in a rush and around evening make up artists and Hairstylist came to help Ahana get ready for the big day. Ahana got dressed in a Gorgeous Red lehenga given by her in- laws. While the makeup artist did her makeup and jewellery. Then the Hairstylist made her hair in a bun and attached the dupata on her head.

On the other hand. The groom was also getting ready for the big day with the help of his brothers. As his brothers do the final touches on his look. Angali came and hung a brooch on his sherwani. His overall looked made him look Handsome.

Neil 👇

Angali:"aww My baby is looking so handsome "

Neil:"Common mom"

Angali:"Alright.. Alright let's head down because it's time for the barat to leave"

Barat is a ritual in which the groom travels on a house, Nowadays they used cars as well, While the other family members dance in front of them as they head to the wedding venue.

The Malhotras left with the barat to the wedding venue. As they reached the wedding venue, they see the bride's family already present. Prabha performs few small rituals before everyone else heads in. Neil is taken to the stage where there is 2 seats specifically for the couple of the night.

As he sat in his seat with the kids around him, He sees Ahana being brought out by His bhabhi and Prabha up to the stage. Ahana comes up on the stage as they are informed to start another ritual called Jamal. This ritual is a where the groom and the bride exchange a long necklace made of flowers.

Neil and Ahana perform the Jamal ceremony then head to the mandap for furthur rituals. The priest chants some mantras while giving few instructions to Ahana and Neil which they follow. Then they are made to stand up and takes 7 around the fire. Which each round they promise to love and take care of each other. And each round bonds them into a relationship for not only one life but 7 lifes.

As they settled down after the 7 rounds, The priest ask Neil to fill Ahana's hairline with Sindoor which is a red powder blessed by god and signifies the wedding bond. Next he is asked to tie the Magalsurta around Ahana's neck which is a necklace made of black beads and is again blessed by god and signifies the wedding bond. The last think they do before Ahana and Neil and officially married is kaniya dhaan. This is a ritual where the parents officially give their daughter to the guy. Prabha and Sanjeev perform the ritual officially handing Ahana to Neil.

Priest:" Now you both are officially Husband and Wife"

Ahana and Neil get up and get blessing from everyone before everyone starts to prepare for the Bidaai. The ritual in with the girls say their final bye to their home and head to the new home.

Ahana hugged each and everyone and cried. After her mom, Prabha and Sanjeev were the onces she loved dearly. They treated her like a daughter or even more then a daughter. Nowadays where in laws dont care about their daughter in law, These two loved her like their daughter. Leaving them was hard.

After final byes Ahana settled down in the car to see the kids already seated. She sat and took Ansh in her lap while looking out to see Neil taking blessing from Prabha and Sanjeev. He sat on the other side taking Naira in his lap while Aryan sat in the middle.

The car started to move as Ahana looked back a last time while Ansh waved by happily and excitedly as he was excited to be living with his new family.

Naira:"Mumma why are you crying "(She asked seeing Ahana wipe her tears)

Neil:(Answering on the behalf of Ahana )"Baby ur mumma has to leave her mumma and papa to come to our house na that why she is sad."

Naira:"oh Don't cry mumma, you can also bring Prabha dadi and Sanjeev dadu also"

Ahana:(Smiles a little at her cuteness )"Its okay baby mumma wont cry"(She said cupping her cheeks. Then her eyes move to Neil who gives a small assuring smile )

The car ride was an hour long and the kids fell asleep. Ahana was looking out the window while her one Arm was around Ansh and other around Aryan was asleep leaning on her. While on the other Hand Naira was also asleep snuggling into her father.

Mandap - A place where in th middle is a fire lit and where the main part of the wedding takes place.
