Inconsequential

It's said that to learn what a person truly fears losing, you should watch what they photograph.

It could be a moment in time, a place, a person, or perhaps all three.

The polaroid that Jungkook gently shook, as he returned to the helm of the Selenelion, could've fallen into any of those three categories - but it was her.

Just her.

Everything else was inconsequential.

Once they had finally retired to bed last night, Jungkook had spent his entire slumber with his arms locked firmly around Hana. His body had been clammy and feverish, but a cool breeze had crept through the window to regulate the temperature.

It was a Saturday, and since the rain had eased up, Hana had suggested taking the boat out, for no good reason other than to get lost at sea with one another. It was an adventure; a little bit of the danger that Jungkook had been yearning for.

"Must be nice, having a little human to look up to you like that," Jungkook's thoughts narrated their uninterrupted view of the East Sea. The sun was setting, casting apricot hues into the sky.

Jimin's predicament had been their chosen topic of conversation for the day. He had still been asleep by the time the duo had set off that morning, having drunk himself into a stupor the night before.

Hana still couldn't quite believe the news, but knew that whatever transpired, Jimin would step up to the plate.

"I suppose," she pondered calmly as the sea lapped around them.

Hana contemplated what it would be like to have a miniature version of herself running around the house. She was still young and had planned on waiting a good few years until she settled down and set up home.

Glancing over towards Jungkook, she studied how he firmly guided the boat's steering wheel, asserting dominance over the vessel. Perhaps her expectations had been short-sighted. The last year had taught her that time was fleeting, and life even more so. What was she waiting for?

The man that she intended on spending the rest of her life with was right there in front of her. Neither of them had ever had a family, not in the traditional sense. The idea of it scared her a little bit - but it didn't stop her from proposing an idea.

"Wanna do it?" She looked at him virtuously, as if she had just asked him to pass her the milk from the fridge or fetch the mail. His candid eyes met hers curiously, prompting her to elaborate. "You and me, start a family?"

"I think we'd need a bigger boat," Jungkook countered quickly, but not without a charming smile spreading across his face. His strong jawline remained in that position for a few seconds, waiting for her to say 'sike'.

Except she didn't.

"We could move to the empty end of Jukdo. Build a house. Get a dog," she hypothesised, throwing pipe dreams into the air and letting them explode, their potential scattering like shrapnel over the two of them.

Hana joined him by the wheel, tucking herself casually in front of him, as if she hadn't just proposed such an outlandish concept.

"Start a family," Jungkook mused, his lips punctuating his sentence with kisses on the crown of her head. His words were slow and drawn out, almost as if he hadn't already thought about it a hundred times over since he had first met Hana. "Fuck it. I'm in if you are?"

Hana lightly giggled at how earnest he could be. "And they say romance is dead."

"Babe," he purred, turning her body so that his lips were just inches away from her own. She could feel his minty breath cool against her skin, sending a tingle down her spine. "Romance is very much alive. How'd you think we're gonna make that family?"

His lips enveloped hers adoringly, with intent.

"Such a Romeo," she laughed into him, the corners of her mouth upturned as she reciprocated his touch. Her hand laid to rest over his throat, her palm engulfing his sun tattoo while her fingers trapped the rays that exploded from it.

They had both been kidding around, but there was a substantial weight to their words.

"I mean it," he murmured, his voice ensnared in their lips. "I wanna spend the rest of my life watching this sunset with you."

"Your eyes are closed," she guessed, knowing that hers definitely were; lost in his mouth, lips, tongue.

He clasped the fabric that was on the back of his neck and pulled his shirt over his head, tossing it to the side. His lips reattached to Hana's as quickly as they left. He didn't want to be apart from her, ever.

"Shut up," he almost growled, only causing Hana to melt further into his grip as he planted kisses down her neck, sinking his teeth into her skin. Her hands travelled down his torso, her nails scratching at him gently, barely leaving a mark on his toned body.

"The rest of my life..." he echoed his previous words, their lips languidly returning to each other. "The rest of my fucking life."
