"Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today."
– Thich Nhat Hanh

~Aurora's Pov~

"Are you scared?" I looked away from the barn and over to see Oliver coming over to me. I was sitting alone, away from everyone watching the barn. He looked at the barn and gestured with his hand slightly. "Of the barn, the- You guys call 'em Walkers right?" He asked. I nodded slightly, "Yeah," I said. " Are you scared," He repeated looking back down at me. Everyone was here sitting at the porch of the Greene's house. "No I just think it's weird that your family has walkers in a barn so close to your house." I said looking up at him. He nodded slightly and looked at the barn too. "Yeah.. it is weird but my dad does what he wants.. We can't tell him otherwise." He said and looked back down to me. "Can I sit with you?" He asked. I nodded, "Yeah," I said. He sat down and leaned against the wall.

"I was wondering where you were. I didn't see you with your brother or your mom." He said. I smiled a bit, "You were looking for me?" I asked. "Uh- Y-yeah. Yeah. You're the only one my age beside Beth.." He said. I narrowed my eyes at him. "How old are you?" I asked, "Seventeen.. You?" He asked. "I'm Fifteen." I said, He raised an eyebrow. "Seriously? My sisters are- Beth is Sixteen.. Maggie's 22." He said and looked away. "Wow.." he mumbled. I smiled, "Why do you say it like that?" I asked. He shook his head. "No, I just thought you were 16 or 17 too." He said. I shook my head. "No I'm fifteen," I said looking back at the barn. He looked at me but then over at the barn again. "They're locked in tight.." He said, I looked over at him. "Yeah but anything can happen.. I don't want them to get out. I don't want anything to happen, I don't wanna lose any more people.." I said.

He nodded a bit as he rested his head against the wall. "They can't get out, don't worry.." He said softly, "Are you not scared?" I asked, he didn't seem scared. I don't know how he wasn't. He has walkers so close to him, "So you are scared." He said nodding. I shrugged and looked back at the barn. "A little.. Yeah." I said. "Maggie told me she got attacked when she went on a run with Glenn. She doesn't think they're sick anymore. I don't think they are either but i can't say that to my dad." He said. "Whoa.. I'm glad she's okay." I said. He nodded but then shook his head. "Me too.. Also she has a thing for him." He said. I smiled looking at him. He looked over then smiled seeing my smile. "Really?" I giggled. He nodded, "Yeah," He said smiling at me. "I mean she told me she really likes him," he said. "I'm gonna tease Glenn now.." I said giggling again. "I'm already working on my sister," He said nodding, chuckling a bit.

"He's gonna hate me oh my god.." I laughed and looked away from him. He laughed too, "What's a little teasing? It's fine." He said. I looked down, still smiling. "It'll be fun," I said looking over to him. He nodded still smiling too, I pursed my lips slightly and looked down with my eyes, "It feels good talking to new people. Being around other people." He said not taking his eyes off me. I nodded and looked at him, "Yeah.." I said softly.

"Can you stop?!" We heard Maggie's voice. Oliver got up and went over quickly, I got up too and followed him to see Shane passing out guns to everyone here. "You do this, you hand out these guns, my dad will make you leave tonight." Maggie said, trying to stop him. "We have to stay, Shane." Carl said stepping down, I followed him. "What are you doing?" I asked looking at Shane, I reached Carl and stood next to him.

"What is this?" Mom asked coming up to us too. "We ain't going anywhere okay?" Shane asked putting the bag on the floor. "Now look, Hershel, he's just gotta understand  okay? Well, he's gonna have to." Shane said and walked up to us holding two guns. "And we need to find Sophia, am I right?" He asked looking at Carl. He got on his knee and looked at me. "You said you wanna protect right? Now's your chance. Take it." He said. He looked at Carl.

"You take it. And you keep your mother and sister safe. You do whatever it takes." He said. I pulled Carl back and held him behind me. He held my hand. "My dad said no guns. We listen to him. Not you." I said looking him dead in the eyes. Mom stood in front of me, putting her hand on my arm pushing me behind her completely. Keeping Shane away from me and Carl. "This is not your call. This is not your decision to make." She spat looking down at him.

"Oh shit." T-Dog said.

We looked over to see him looking in the fields. We all went over to see Dad and Hershel holding two walkers with Snare poles in front of them, leading them. Jimmy clapping to get their attention. "What is that? What is that?!" Shane asked and started running. We all followed him, running. "Shane wait!" Mom called out as Carl let me go and went to her quickly.. "What the hell are you doing?!" Shane yelled once he pushed the gate open. "Shane just back off." Dad said. "Dad!?" I called out looking at him confused. I don't understand why he was doing this. "Why do your people have guns!" Hershel called out looking at everyone. "Are you kidding me?! You see what they're holding onto?!" Shane yelled looking at us while dad and Hershel continued to hold the walkers.

"I see who I'm holding on to!" Hershel responded, correcting Shane. "Nah man you don't." Shane said going around them both. "Shane, just let us do this and then we can talk." Dad said holding on tight to the pole. "What you wanna talk about Rick?!" Shane asked and backed up from the walker. "These things ain't sick! They're not people! They're dead! Ain't gotta feel nothing for 'em 'cause all they do, they kill!" Shane yelled trying to make a point for the Greene family. Trying to get them to open their eyes. "These things right here! They're the things that killed Amy! They killed Otis! They're gonna kill all of us if-"

"Shane shut up!" Dad yelled, cutting him off. Shane walked and stood in front of the walkers at a distance. "Hey Hershel man, let me ask you something. Could a living breathing person," he said, pulling out his gun and taking the safety off, "Could they walk away from this?" He pointed the gun at the walker Hershel was holding, he pulled the trigger 3 times aiming at it's upper body. "No! Stop it!" Dad yelled holding on to the pole. "That's 3 rounds in the chest. Could someone who's alive, could they just take that?! Why's it still coming?" He asked and shot the walker a few more times. "That's it heart! It's lungs! Why is it still coming?!" Shane asked and pulled the trigger two more times, trying to get through to Hershel. "Shane, enough!" Dad yelled.

"Yeah, you're right man. That is enough." He said and walked towards the walker. He aimed the gun at the walker's head and pulled the trigger.
