"Miss Raya, can I ask you a question?" Gianni asked finishing her last chicken nugget as Soraya sent her a head nod, "howcome you speak little much?" She asked pinching her thumb and index together to show a rough example of the amount.
"Would you like me to speak more?" Soraya questioned.
Gianni shrugged, "I like the sound of your voice, I like when you speak to me. Mommy does a lot of yelling nowadays and hurts ear." Soraya pouted as Gianni pulled her ear.
"Does she do anything else?" Soraya pressured.
She shook her head, "She pinches ear when I'm naughty but I try be good. But school is soo hard." Gianni had recently started kindergarten and already found herself finding it hard to keep up.
"The other kids are mean." Gianni mumbled quietly.
"Do they say mean things?" Soraya moved one of her 2c curls out of the way so she could get a better look at the upset child.
"Sometimes, they make fun of my hair and skin. Because mommy isn't good at it." Gianni's dad was Italian whilst her mom was a complete American hence the name and also the hair. Sometimes Gianni would rock up to daycare with her hair in rats tails with coconut oil and a comb in her hand and walk directly to Soraya not saying anything and just sitting in between her legs.
"Your skin's beautiful Gia." Soraya reassured, "why don't you come here before school? And I'll do your hair all pretty then walk you over." There was a small kindergarten a pathway across from the daycare which most of the 5-6 year olds went to.
"But but w-when Jalen is there he makes them back off." Soraya smiled looking over across the hall at a moping Jalen who was sitting down on a deserted matt surrounding by lego, "i-i'm telling you just one glance and all the mean boys back off. D-Dillard knows he doesn't stand a chance against my Jalen." Gianni said giggling.
"Your Jalen? Ouu okay Gigi." Gianni giggled as Soraya started tickling her.
"Missssss Raya!" Kaia ran over to the two tapping Soraya's shoulder rapidly and moving from left to right , "I need to peeee." She dragged, "nowwww." She added when Soraya didn't move fast enough.
"Okay Gia you'll be alright here?" The small Italian girl nodded, "okay let's go Kay Kay, c'mon." She took Kaia's hand in hers and walked quickly to the girls bathroom.
