"It's a girl!" They would cry
As we hurdled through time.
"Earth! How amazing!"
"I wish she were mine!"
How lucky are we,
To take hold of her hand,
To love her, to listen,
To live in her land.
She'd smile up at us
With her innocent face
Promise tomorrow.
In a wonderful place.
She'll grow and she'll flourish
She'll learn how to live
We'll teach her – we'll train her.
The life that we give.
But something went wrong
And we didn't know how.
Poor earth was all hurt
She won't come again now.
She's so young,
But so lost,
She may never return
I wish we would save her – whatever the cost.
She's a baby to me,
So small and so strong,
But we kick her and kill her,
Like we want her all gone.
And why would we do that?
The question is asked.
We pretend it's a game.
Like our future is masked.
Save her – why won't we?
I'll ask you again.
Is burger and pizza,
More crucial to men?
Our baby is everyone.
She brings joy to us all,
She'll hold us and keep us.
She'll catch when we fall.
I wanted to save her.
I wanted to try.
When everyone else
Thinks it okay that she die.
When what will we do,
On the day she's all gone?
There'll be nothing to love us
The world will be wrong.
If zombies are eaters
And killing machines,
We call ourselves different
Despite our crushed dreams?
If we were as good
As we wished we could be,
We'd love her and save her,
Heal her maybe?
But instead we keep kicking,
And pushing her down.
Until one day,
Maybe our children will frown?
We know we are bad,
And we know we do wrong.
So save her – oh please
We don't have very long.
I loved her – my home
My small, beautiful Earth,
And I wish we could see her.
For all that she's worth.
Her gold and her riches,
Are nothing to me.
For she is the everything
I wish she could be.
But she's dying instead.
So why don't you see?
