⚘ Soul-Sword

The Mortal Sword is kept by the Silent Brothers in the Silent City, hung on the wall above the Speaking Stars in the Silent Brothers' council chamber.

(Silent Brothers are those creepy corpses with their eyes and mouth stitched. Who live in caves and guard all the evil people and the ashes of dead people.)

The Sword is an enormous silver sword, shaped like a typical arming sword from the Middle Ages. It has a straight double-edged blade and a one-handed hilt, made of pure adamas, with an elaborate design of outspread wings, emerging from the point where blade meets handle.

The main purpose of the mortal sword is to coerce Nephilim to tell the truth, mostly during trials. Shadowhunters who wish to have their claims tested and proved may submit themselves to "trial by the Sword," during which a suitable judge, often a Silent Brother, sometimes the Consul or Inquisitor, wields the sword and places it in the hands of the deponent, where it adheres and cannot be removed until the judge wills it.

And no, you cannot use the sword to prove whether your sister ate your chocolate bar and later lied about not doing so. But, if somehow, you gain possession of the sword, stab your sister with it. Eating your food without permission is enough a reason for war.

The Mortal sword can also be called Soul-Sword, Maellartach, and Angel Blade. Downworlders and mundanes cannot be compelled by the Soul-Sword.

The Sword can also be turned into a dark weapon of power. Initially, the Soul-Sword is of seraphic origin, its power drawn from Angel Raziel himself. However, You Know Who (Valentine Morgenstern) discovered an ancient spell to reverse its power from angelic to demonic, through a process called the 'Ritual of Infernal Conversion' (This is important, kids. Note it down), where the Sword is heated until red-hot and cooled four times in the blood of Downworld children: a child of Lilith, a child of the moon (Werewolf), a child of the night (Vampire), and a child of the fey. This allows the bearer to gain vast amount of power to control demons.

(Valentine really be ruining everybody's day, huh?)

In September 2012, the Sword was used to question Annabel Blackthorn, who subsequently used it to kill Robert Lightwood and Livvy Blackthorn. It was shattered when Emma struck it with Cortana. It had later been rumoured to be fixed by the Iron Sisters.
