Chapter 1: Hold on Till May

"Dammit Emery! Bring me my fucking wine before I throw you out of the damn house you no good bitch!" My mom threw her wine glass against the wall. I scurried to the kitchen to get her some wine so she would shut the fuck up. She wasn't always like this...

"Mommy, push me!" We were at the park for my birthday. "Okay sweetie. Ready, set, swing!" She pushed me on the swing. I giggled and giggled and giggled. "Sissy come swing with us!" I yelled out at Rose. She was 14 while I was 6. John was 14 too because he is Rose's twin. They looked nothing alike but they liked the same things. "No Emery, I'm playing cards with Dad." Oh dad. He was a handsome man. I can see why mom married him. He wasn't rich but he was handsome and nice.

I shook the memory out of my head. Things have changed now. "Dammit Emery hurry up!" My mom screamed at me. I quickly poured the wine in the glass and brought it to her. "Good girl, here is 5 bucks. Go get you a Barbie doll from the dollar store or something." I'm 25, not 3. I thought to my self. Whatever.

I went to my room, closed the door, and face timed Ann Marie. "Hey girl what's up?" Ann answered. She has been my best friend since we moved to San Diego 15 years ago. "You know, just being a bar tender for mother." I frowned. "Show me your wrists." I exclaimed. "I'm clean I swear. Ann defended. "Fine, anyways I was wondering if I could come over. I need a break from mom. She still acts like she owns my apartment." I rolled my eyes. I pay for this place and she thinks she can throw me out. "I hear you. You can come over whenever, but tonight I'm dog sitting." Ann dog sits for celebrities to make extra cash. She has been on like 5 reality shows. "For who?" I asked. Sometimes she dog sits for people I like. "Oh you know, the usual, it's Lindsay Lohan. She has a meeting with her attorney." She giggled. "Okay well I will be over in a bit. And I forgot to tell you, I finished the song!" I like to sing and write songs when I'm not working. "Awesome! Show me when you get here! Oh ya, I have a surprise for when you get here." She tried her best to wink, but she hasn't ever been able to wink. I laughed my head off then said bye and hung up.

I packed some clothes, made mom some wine, and locked the door. I can't let mom out of the house again. Not after she was arresting for drunk driving. After I parked the car in Ann's driveway I walked into her house. We don't knock we just barge in to each other's homes. "I'm home." I sung. She was sitting on the couch, watching a dog eat food. "Sorry can't look up, I'm working." She said. "Haha funny." I said sarcastically. "Look at my song, it's called Hold on Till May."

She sits up high, surrounded by the sun
One million branches and she loves every one
"Mom and dad, did you search for me?
I've been up here so long I'm going crazy!"

And as the sun went down we ended up on the ground
I heard the train shake the windows

A/N: Ya I know, short chapter. This song belongs to Pierce the Veil, but in the story I changed it to where Emery wrote it. In the description it said Emery's aunt was named Emery. That is actually my sister. So I'm basically the mom in this story...? Oh well, I hope you enjoyed this! I'm probably going to update a few times a week.
