Down the empty streets, you wandered. Down the empty streets, where the only thing keeping you company was the broken cars, the deserted vibe and the wind that came and left as it pleased, sometimes picking up, sometimes laying low, as if it was never there.

Everything was quiet, with the only sound being your feet dragging against the hard concrete that the sun had been beating down upon the entire day with no stop, no pause. No mercy

You accidently kicked a rock that happened to be in your way, but it didn't go far, only barely hitting the already dusty and broken window of one of the abandoned stores that you walked amongst. Accidently

It seemed a lot of accidents happened in this world. This new world, with new dangers.

Death was everywhere you looked. Some happened to find it in their loved ones, and some happened to find it in themselves as they wandered the lonely streets, just like you were not.

Because inside of you, was nothing left but a heart that was no longer beating, and lungs that no longer were breathing - everything that once defined you... Gone. Withered away, as if it had never been there. You saw death in yourself, because you were the death now, and the death had taken control.

And all because of that one, single bite that was placed perfectly on your greying arm that used to hold a color, vibrant and warm, loving... Human. Because now, after a whole year, you gave in to the temptation.

Well, it had been an accident, but an accident that you could have tried harder to avoid. Had you just been one meter from where you were standing, you would've been able to react in time. You would've been able to stop the zombie that came out of nowhere, the zombie that had now cursed you to walk down the lonely streets, alone, and with nobody by your side.

Just like when you died.

Maybe this had not happened, had you just tried harder to get to Nick before evacuating the cities back when the first breakout got worse. Yeah, it had been your fault, had you only tried harder, had you only reacted faster... Had you only not given up.

But being alone for a year, it does something to a person. It changes them, it changes the way they view the world, no matter how messed up they saw the reality through their eyes that had seen worse things that one human should never have to see.

However, now that your emotions had been shut down, as you were, in fact, dead, the things you saw, the things you did, had no such effect on you. Your humanity had been eaten away greedily by the virus that had entered your system from the bite.

You just wished you could have fulfilled your last wish before you died: see Nick again.

But this world world was a cruel place, and there was no such thing as fulfilling your last wishes, even if you were on your deathbed. So many people died in every hour of the day, and if each and every single one of those got their deathbed-wish fulfilled, the world would no longer be a terrible place.
