Chapter 3
✩°̥࿐୨୧

AURORA WAS CURRENTLY AT A STORE looking for something pretty to wear to Elena's birthday party. She had left after Damon had claimed he wanted to just 'take a bath and wash away his worries'. Of course, Aurora hadn't missed the way he had grabbed a bottle of alcohol before heading to his room. She was curious to follow after him when she heard a girl talking, but she decided against it. Instead, she went shopping.

She searched through the racks of clothing and huffed in frustration. She couldn't find anything that was decent to wear. She couldn't help but remember how life was like when she was younger, no girls back then would've been caught alive in some of the clothes she had seen. That wasn't saying she didn't like the new styles, she just preferred what she was used to in her younger years.

As she was searching she noticed a blonde girl with blue eyes glancing at her. The girl was wearing a white shirt and beige shorts with polka dots on them. Aurora studied her style for a moment longer before nodding to herself. The girl seemed like the perfect person to get some opinions from. She approached the girl, who looked at her surprised, and gave her a small smile, "Hello, I couldn't help but notice how stylish you are." she paused, letting her words sink in, "Do you think you could help me pick out an outfit? There's a party I'm going to tonight and I have no clue what to wear."

The blonde girl gave her a bright smile, "I would love to help." she said enthusiastically, drawing a smile from the brunette, "My name's Caroline." she stuck out her hand and Aurora grasped it lightly.

"I'm Aurora." she said. She couldn't help but notice the positive energy that seemed to be surrounding Caroline. It was contagious and caused Aurora's smile to grow even bigger. They let go of each other's hands and Caroline motioned to some racks of dresses.

    "Let's start here." she said.

Aurora and Caroline searched for what felt like hours for some clothes. The blonde had made Aurora try on multiple different dresses before they had finally settled on one. It was a light blue, almost grey, lace dress with spaghetti straps, and a deep v neck. It reached around mid-thigh when she wore it, and she paired it with a pair of silver high heels.

"You look stunning." Caroline said when she walked out of the dressing room. It had made Aurora's cheeks turn a deep red. She hadn't had anyone compliment her like that in years.

"Only thanks to you." Aurora replied with a soft smile. It was true. Aurora would've never had picked the dress out for herself. It was so different than what she was normally used to, jeans and short sleeve tops had been her best friend since it had become normal for girls to wear them.

Caroline laughed at her response, "I'm pretty sure you'd look good in a potato sack."

Aurora let our a loud laugh at her response as she remembered the time Marilyn Monroe had did a photo shoot in a potato sack before. She sent Caroline a bright smile, "Thanks"

"Anytime." Caroline replied, she then looked the girl up and down again. "That style suits you."

"Thank you. It's the first time I've worn something like this." Aurora said. It was a lie. She had gone through a crazy phase in her past, but the blonde didn't need to know that.

"Well, maybe we can exchange numbers and go shopping again sometime?" Caroline asked with hope evident in her voice. Aurora thought for a moment, it had been so long since she had actually allowed herself to have a human friend. Finally, she decided.

"I would love that." She grinned. She hoped that if the friendship turned out good that maybe Caroline would be turned into a vampire, that way she could have a forever friend.

Aurora went back inside the dressing room and changed. When she came out, her and Caroline started heading towards the cash register to check out. "So who's party are you going to?" she asked, her voice was full of curiosity.

"It's," she paused, trying to think of the girl's name, "Her name is Elena. A friend of mine invited me to go there, but I've never met her."

"Shut up!" Caroline exclaimed, it caused the people around them to glance at her, "That's the party that I'm throwing! Elena is my friend." The smile slowly faded until it was very small, "Who's your friend?" she asked.

"His name is Damon Salvatore." Aurora replied as she watched the girls expression. Caroline seemed almost . . . disappointed by who she said. "Do you know him?"

"Oh yeah," Caroline said bitterly, "I know him very well." she sighed, "Listen, I like you a lot, but Damon's bad news. You should really stay away from him."

Aurora reeled back in shock. She couldn't believe this girl was trying to tell her to stay away from her friend. "Sorry, but I've known him for a long time and I don't plan on ruining our friendship because a stranger tells me he's bad news."

Caroline sighed again and glanced around to see if anyone was watching, "Okay. I didn't want to have to do this but. . ." she trailed off and gazed deeply into Aurora's eyes, "You will stay away from Damon." she compelled.

Aurora backed away from her, "Did you just. . .? You're a vampire aren't you?" Her hands clenched into fists as she glared angrily at the girl, "How dare you?" she said, her voice was low but filled with anger. "You can't just compel people to do whatever you ask! You vampires are all the same anymore. There's only very few of you who actually respect people's choices."

Caroline seemed shocked by her outburst. Her eyes were wide as she took in Aurora's words. Guilt filled her as she realized what she had just done. "I'm sorry." she apologized, "I just thought I was protecting you. Damon, he," she took in a deep breath, "When he first came to town, he compelled me and used me as a blood bag. You're human and I just didn't want the same thing to happen to you."

Aurora's anger disappeared at her words and she looked at her in pity. "I'm sorry that happened to you." she said softly. She reached out and put a hand on the girls arm, "But I'll be okay." she reassured.

Caroline nodded her head, "Okay." she said as she gave Aurora a small smile. She then cleared her throat and motioned towards the checkout, "Let's go pay for our stuff."
