I closed my books putting an emphasis on the motion to truly signify to myself that classes were over for the day. My hand cramped as I spent hours of the day learning how to write with ink?

"I just don't understand why you guys wouldn't use pencils," I whispered next to Hermione during our last class of the day: Herbology, " I mean really. It's a much more efficient use of time and you can erase it if you mess up. Plus lead is less messy than ink."

"Shush," Hermione huffed at me wanting to finish the body paragraph of the essay we had been assigned for homework.

I sighed when I recalled the day, and realized that these Hogwarts classes might be a lot more difficult then they were at Ilvermorny. I was lucky today that I got to sit next to Hermione in each of my classes, except for Transfiguration. I was partnered with Neville in that class which proved it was going to be a challenge.

"Not again!" Neville cried as I saw his teacup still had the tail of the rat by the spout. Professor McGonagall came by and assigned him an extra roll of parchment regarding the proper incantations for a successful animal-to-object transfiguration. Before I left class I made sure to help him with the last step.

"See Neville you're just waving your wand wrong," I explained to him, "With the last incantation wave your wand clock wise not counterclockwise."

With classes finally over for the day I checked my watch and saw that it was five minutes until I was supposed to meet dad at his office. I was halfway there when I noticed a familiar set of pigtail braids skipping past me. She was fumbling with the ring I charmed on her pinky finger and humming a song from our favorite muggle band.

"What we haven't spoken in two days and now i'm as worthless as Snow's poo to you?" I called out to Ruby knowing she had been the one to skip past me. She turned around at the sound of my voice and squealed to run and give me a hug.

"Oh my gosh Violet I love it here so much. Today in class I learned how to make a feather lift in the air WITH MAGIC. I'm a little scared with my magical creatures class, you know I don't do to well with unknown and animals like that. I also got so lost on the way to my second class but a nice blonde girl from my house named Luna walked me there-" I planted my hand right over her mouth to stop her from rambling.

"How about you wait to tell me your stories until we get to dads office so you don't have to repeat them?" I told her as I looped my arm through hers. Ruby told me how Snow loved the Ravenclaw common room and often tried to play with the ghosts that passed through. We approached dads office and I grinned in pride seeing the door engraved with 'Professor Pine' on it.

"Knock Knock," I started knowing Ruby would continue my joke.

"Who's there"

"Interrupting cow"

"Interrupting cow who"

"MOO," we both screamed right as my dad opened the door staring at us with an amused expression.

"Well so much for remaining professional with each other," dad remarked while letting us enter his office.

"I love your office dad, you need to hang up more posters though," Ruby commented while I laughed trying to picture Dad with any type of poster hanging. I picked up a picture from his desk and saw that in the frame was a photo of my dad and mom spinning baby Ruby around while I was hooked on both their legs. The picture showed us all spinning and laughing in content. I smiled at the picture not remembering ever seeing it.

"That was the first day we moved into the new house in Massachusetts," Dad said without looking at the photo. He had already sat down at his desk and grabbed a bottle of water to drink, "We had just arrived after a long trip and all you could ask for was to visit the park nearby. So we took you both and a stranger offered to take a picture of us."

I sighed before placing the picture down. It was a weird feeling not really knowing someone but having their absence affect you daily. It just felt like a missing piece in my life but I shrugged it off and directed my attention back towards him.

"So how were your first couple days of getting settled into the school?" he asked both girls as we fumbled to get all our words and stories across. After an hour or so my dad's watch beeped signaling that it was time to head to the hall for dinner, "well girls this was lovely. I know we'll be seeing each other daily but it would be nice to catch up once a week like this or so." I nodded quickly seeing Ruby do the same as we gathered our stuff to head down together.

Ruby and I were in a passionate conversation discussing that we should bring pencils and pens to Hogwarts in order to make students lives easier.

"I mean really, imagine how much money you'd save on bottles of ink when it already comes in the device premade," Ruby argued as I agreed full heartedly.

As we entered the hall we both waved goodbye to my dad and I hugged Ruby as she headed to the Ravenclaw table. I watched a boy her age wave her over to the empty seat next to him and I made a note to ask her about him next time I spoke with her.

"Hey Violet just the girl we were hoping to see," a voice called out to me as I was making my way to the Gryffindor table. The twins sat directly next to eachother and eyed the seat in front of them. I shrugged and sat down before grabbing myself a bowl of soup.

"And why would you be looking for me?" I questioned while eating the delicious chowder soup.

"Well last I remember you signed a deal with the devil aka us, asking to be involved with entering the tournament?" Fred said as he raised his eyebrow towards me, testing to see if I was still interested.

"Of course I'm still interested but we can't even enter yet, the other schools haven't even arrived," I pointed out slowly not knowing what else they wanted from me.

"Well we have to discuss tactics!" George exclaimed, "I don't fancy being hexed because I walked up to enter my name without a plan."

"Well if there's an age line maybe we could use wingardium leviosa to lift someone over the enchantment?" Fred suggested.

But George shook his head, "No way. I'm betting as soon as that person lands they would be jinxed in some way. How about some poly juice potion to turn into an older student?"

I laughed at their stupidity before they both turned to me.

"And what's so funny?" George asked.

"Well the fact that you would mention using poly juice potion which is quite difficult to prepare, instead of just using a small dose of aging potion to turn a couple months older," I said in a duh tone seeing as that was the obvious solution.

They both looked at me in awe, "smart and pretty, shes definitely a keeper," Fred winked at me while I felt a smile slowly creeping up to my face.
