"You really did pass." Ansel is surprised to see the bag in Lin Yie's hand. He pushes up the glasses resting on his nose bridge.

"Unbelievable."

"... Why is it unbelievable?" Lin Yie puts the bag on the table. He hasn't opened it yet. He just feels something is not right about Ansel, so he looks at his roommate.

"You wear glasses too?"

"They are fake." Ansel says, "I wear them to focus."

Not sure if it is intentional, but whenever Ansel tilts his head, his pink ears also gently sway.

Rabbit ears, pick hair, red eyes, and glasses. What a perfect... man.

Lin Yie sighs. He really felt confused about how he should feel now.

Ansel notices Lin Yie's change of emotion and frowns, "Why do you always look so sorry?"

Of course, Lin Yie is going to tell him the truth, "It is a shame that I am just an intern right now."

He opens the bag.

There are a uniform and an ID card.

"What's this?" He takes the ID out.

"What do you think?"

"Of course I know. I mean, it is just too fast." Lin Yie says, "I just passed an entrance test."

"Don't underestimate Rhodes Island," Ansel says.

"Of course I won't. How do I use it?"

Ansel reaches his hand out, and Lin Yie gives the ID to him. Then, Ansel takes it and scans it outside.

*Ding* Lin Yie's information is displayed on the scanner.

Rhodes Island intern. Lin Yie.

Job: Psychologist intern

Privilege: Level 1

Dorm: 15C

Ansel gives the ID back, "When you are still an intern, remember to keep your ID with you at all times. Even though your privilege is only level 1, without it, you can't even open the door."

"So I can open all the doors with level 1?" Lin Yie asks carelessly.

Ansel glances at him. Then, Lin Yie realizes there is something wrong with his statement.

"I mean opening the dorm's doors."

"You can only open this dorm's!" Ansel stares at him, "You are just an intern."

"Nevermind..."

Lin Yie regrets what he just said. He can't even look at Ansel now. The latter is looking like a sister whining in front of her brother.

His heart can't take it, especially when he sees those ears.

(Ah, why do you have to be a man?)

Obviously, Ansel can't read his mind. He goes back to his bed and reads.

It is lunch break right now.

But Lin Yie still wants someone to talk with, "Orchid wants me to start working tomorrow."

"Hmm."

"What should I prepare?" Lin Yie asks, "To be honest, I am not good at counselling."

"Then what are you good at?" Ansel asks carelessly,

"What are vets good at?"

"Sterilization. My surgical skills were the best in my hospital. Cats, dogs, or even rabbits, I only need 5 minutes." Lin Yie brags about his "medical skills" in front of Ansel, but he doesn't get to finish, because Ansel suddenly slams his book shut. He looks a bit pale.

Lin Yie asks, "What's wrong?"

Ansel glares at Lin Yie before throwing his book aside and taking a nap.

Soon, there is the familiar sound of teeth grinding.

Lin Yie still looks confused. He can see Ansel is angry, but he doesn't know what he did that made Ansel angry.

(What a weird roommate I have.)

He sighs before lying on his bed and staring at the ceiling.

He is not stupid.

He can feel the enmity from Rhodes Island. Setting Ansel aside, the way Nearl and Orchid treated him is too obvious. They don't want him to join.

He can somewhat understand, but he doesn't know what to do. Shining said his ability can save Rhodes Island, but so far he hasn't been given a chance to prove himself.

Even if he could, he doesn't know how to do it right now. He can't just say something like "Everything is fine. If you are angry or upset, just let me caress you and you will feel better."

If he does, even Shining won't be able to save him.

It has been two years, now he is in Rhodes Island but compared to other transmigrators. This pace is way too slow. Although he is not an impatient person, these two years were still very difficult for him.

No family. No friends. Only a boss and one or two colleagues he can chat with, but as a foreigner in this world, what can he talk about?

Perhaps, the real companions for him were those cats and dogs. They would always love his company. Animals love him, and he loves them back.

Sometimes he thinks, if things stayed that way,] everything would be fine. Nothing would happen. Not fighting a group of infected at an abandoned hospital. As a vet in Chernobog, although a bit shameful for a transmigrator it doesn't sound so bad to him. Because of his health, he has never been competitive, and even if he were, his parents won't let him because they worried about his health.

(But.)

Lin Yin closes his eyes.

He still left Chernobog and came here. Maybe he is stubborn but he wants to know why he was brought to this world.

Or should he say, he wants to live differently? Doing what he was not able to before?

No.

He wants to make a difference.

He wants to help.

He wants to try.

That was why he hugged Shining when she lost control and protected the infected girl in the hospital. Actually, he has some pride for what he did. After all, he used to stand behind his parents doing nothing but wait for his death.

Now, he can be the one shielding others. To be someone to reach out for the people that others have given off hope to be saved.

(And so, Rhodes Island, here I am. What do you want me to do?)

Suddenly, someone knocks on the door.

Ansel is still grinding his teeth, so he can't open the door. Lin Yie has to do it himself.

Then he sees Shining outside.

"What's up?"

Shining looks behind Lin Yie. When she sees Ansel sleeping, she whispers, "12:30 tonight. Meet me in front of the cafeteria."

Before he can ask her, Shining is already gone.
