During the time Jian Yuncheng left the Jian Residence, Mo Shiyun had started arguing with her mother in their nearby cabin.

“Mother, please don’t do this kind of thing next time. I already promised you that I’ll prepare a gift,” Mo Shiyun said whilst frowning. Her tone sounded rather helpless.

“What are you talking about?” Aunt Mo replied in a confused tone.

“Young master Yuncheng’s gift. You shouldn’t have done that.”

“Wait. Didn’t you prepare that gift?” Aunt Mo asked back. Her expression appeared to be surprised.

Mo Shiyun discovered from her mother’s expression that her mother was indeed unaware of the situation.

“You didn’t do it? Then….” Mo Shiyun trailed off in bewilderment.

“I assumed the gift was prepared by you. I don’t think anyone else in the Jian family would have considered preparing a gift… So… Mother thought… Ahhhh… Was it not your gift?”

Both of them were in shock,

They had assumed that the other person had done it. However, now they discovered that wasn’t the case.

Then, Aunt Mo panicked, “What do we do now? Will we be discovered?”

Mo Shiyun frowned as she thought carefully about the situation.

When Aunt Mo saw her daughter’s expression, she began to blame herself, “This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have suggested that you prepare a gift. From the beginning, it was just an extra burden for you to bear. And now… And now it’s caused trouble…”

When Mo Shiyun saw her mother’s guilty expression, she couldn’t help but feel bad as well.

“Mother, forget it. Don’t blame yourself either. You’re doing things for my good.”

Mo Shiyun attempted to comfort her mother.

However, Aunt Mo started to worry. “What if the person who gave the gift turned up? If they do, wouldn’t they realize that we’re lying? And if they found out, would young master Yuncheng kick us out? I can’t lose this job… If I do, how do I pay for your university tuition…”

“Mother, it’ll be fine. In a while, I’ll finish knitting a sweater. Then I’ll take a few photos of the sweater to keep as proof. I’ll then throw a similar paper bag into the bushes of the garden. At that time, we’ll have a valid explanation.”

Although this wasn’t the best thing to do, she couldn’t change the past. Mistakes had already been made. The only thing that she could do now was to find a way to make up for it.

She couldn’t let her mother lose this job. The job was incredibly important to her mother.

Her mother already worked incredibly hard to take care of her and make sure she could go to school.

After she heard Mo Shiyun’s words, Aunt Mo’s mood improved significantly.

However, a moment later, Aunt Mo started to speak in a remorseful tone, “It’s all my fault. Your mother is useless. I’m always dragging you down. You even have to worry about these small things… If I were a little more competent, you wouldn’t have to live such a life…”

Aunt Mo always felt that she owed her daughter. Due to her inability, her daughter had to suffer with her.

Mo Shiyun’s heart was moved as she gazed at her mother.

“Mother, don’t say such things. You’re already working incredibly hard. Look at your own hands…” Mo Shiyun said as she grabbed at her mother’s coarse hands. Her heart ached when she saw them.

In terms of age, her mother was seven to eight years younger than Madam Wen Nuan.

However, when her mother stood together with Wen Nuan, Wen Nuan appeared to look ten years younger.

Wen Nuan was born into a good family. After she grew up, she also married well. She lived like royalty and didn’t have a single worry in her life.

In contrast, Aunt Mo was born into a poor family. She didn’t get much of an education. Later, she also married a bastard who cheated on her a few years after marriage. The man left his wife and daughter to fend for themselves.

Mo Shiyun understood where her mother was coming from. Her mother didn’t want her to follow her old path. This was precisely why she desperately tried to get her to attend a good school and meet outstanding individuals. She didn’t want her daughter to follow her footsteps.
