Almost instantly, we all stopped, looking back towards Alice before starting back towards Bella, who was looking at us all with confusion.

Emmett, Rose, and Theo all ran in from their spots further out in the field to try and figure out what the commotion was. Edward, however, was quick to read Alice's mind and soon adopted the same uneasy look on his face, starting towards Bella while trying to formulate a plan to get her to safety. Theo quickly appeared in front of me, his eyes scanning the tree line for whatever it was that Alice had seen. He, along with Jasper, stood rigid and tall, their eyes constantly scanning the treeline as they tried to figure out a way to keep their loved ones safe.

"They were leaving. Then they heard us," Alice explained to us, watching as Edward started to mutter apologizes to Bella.

"Let's go," he said to Bella, taking her arm and starting to pull her towards the car. Carlisle just put his hand on Edward's shoulder and shook his head.

"It's too late."

Edward momentarily froze, trying to think of the different ways to protect Bella. He looked her over before looking away and towards the trees, knowing that he only had- at most- a few minutes to conceal Bella as best as he could.

"Get your hair down," he muttered to her. Bella, who quickly figured out how severe the situation was hastily followed his instructions, pulling her hair out of its ponytail.

"Like that'll help," Rose scoffed, looking Bella over with harsh eyes, "I can smell her from across the field."

Turning our attention away from Edward and Bella, we watch as Carlisle steps forward, wordlessly placing himself in front of us, a charming smile appearing on his face as he waits for our guests to arrive. The rest of us followed suit, standing behind him as we tried to scan the trees for any indication of their arrival. Edward pushed Bella behind him as he stood next to Emmett, whose huge form helped to further conceal Bella from view.

As the three figures emerge from the trees, both Theo and Jasper stand a little straighter, their eyes already assessing the small group, pinpointing strengths and weaknesses in each, their minds getting ready for a fight. The field was dead silent, both sides staying silent as we watched each other come closer and closer to view. In the end, they stopped only a few feet away from us, their red eyes cold and calculating as they went from person to person. The man in the middle, a tall dark-skinned man with crimson eyes, gave us a warm smile, obviously trying to diffuse the tension.

"I believe this belongs to you," he says, his smooth voice holding what once was a French accent, causing my ears to perk up. He lifts his hand and shows the ball that we had left in the woods. Tossing it towards Carlisle, who gave him a small smile and nod of the head in a silent 'thanks'.
