ATHENA HUNT considered herself lucky. She had everything she could ever want and more in life, and she was just a high schooler still. Her future was bright, and her path was clear, and with the amount of determination she carried on a day to day basis, nothing would stop her from accomplishing everything she set out to.
That would ring true, until she got in a car accident. Until she was finding out what it felt like to stop breathing, and subsequently start breathing again because of CPR. She was aware of what it felt like when her face was flayed open, bleeding onto pavement. She knew what it felt like to be told that other people in the car didn't make it, and that she might not even make it through the night with her current state.
It's easy to get derailed after something like that.
But Athena has never let anything keep her down for long, and she surely won't let the people who left her at her worst hold her back.
So, with a newfound spite and stubbornness woven into her DNA, Athena returns to school determined to continue down her path in life that guarantees greatness, accepting the fact that it would just be a bit lonelier than before.
She's just trying to figure out how to get her own head back on right– she isn't prepared for another twist of fate that sends her reeling into the world of vampires and witches, and a power of her own that knows no capacity. She's certainly not prepared for STEFAN SALVATORE, and every terrifying emotion that comes with knowing him.
ATHENA knows by now that she can't control fate, but if it means she loses STEFAN, she'll do anything to change it, even if it means betraying her family, and killing those who betray her.
