Chapter 72

Fred pov

George and I got a message that we had to get back to headquarters, there was something happening at the Ministry. I knew that Maeve was there, but I was trying not to worry all that much. I thought I'd distract myself and finally ask Emmeline for her permission. 

"You gonna asked her mom?" George asked as he was locking the door.

"Yeah, I'm not sure if this is a good time to ask, since most of the order are currently fighting death eaters as we speak." I laughed

"It's good to have nice things during these dark times." George patted my back, then we apparated to Sirius'. Mom and Emmeline were sitting in the kitchen making tea.

"Ah boys! Just in time, I'm just making some tea. Sit. Sit." Mom ushered us to the table.

"Hey boys." Emmeline said into the cup she was holding.

"Hey Mrs. Ems." George said grabbing some bread.

"Maeve wrote to me yesterday, she was very confident with her N.E.W.T.S."

"Yeah, she said it was easy to study without us bothering her." George laughed. I got a bit quiet, and I think Emmeline noticed.

"What's got Fred so quiet. Didn't think I'd see the day." She winked at me.

"Emmeline, I was wondering if could talk to you about something."

"I have a feeling I already know what you're going to ask, but ask away." She smiled into her cup, I noticed my moms face bright up as she was pouring some more tea."Thank you, Molly." She said

"I would like to have your blessing to marry Maeve. I know we're young but I truly love your daughter and I know how important family is to her, and if I could I would ask her dad. So that's why I'm asking you." That came out a lot more calmer than I expected, I expected to throw up or at least have a shaky voice.

"You really love her, don't you?" She teared up

"More than my life." That was true, I loved Mae so much.

"Then, I guess I have to say...." Then there was a crack. Our heads snapped to the direction. Dad, Ginny and Ron ran into the kitchen. Something happened.

"Dad, what's going on. Where is everyone?" George asked. Dad was emotionless, just staring off at mom. But Ginny and Ron were crying.

"Where's Maeve?" I asked, standing up.

"Maeve died. She killed her" Ginny sobbed. I think mom dropped the teapot because I think I heard it shatter, but I all I can really hear was Emmeline's wails and then it all became muffled. My world stopped, I don't even remember falling. But then George was holding me up.

"Fred. Fred look at me." George said, "Freddie, please breath. Fred." I looked over at him. I could tell he was trying to be strong but that couldn't stop his tears, they were already falling. "Fred. I ... I am so sorry."

"George, I... I ..." I couldn't breathe.

I was just asking her mom for permission to marry her, and now she's dead. She's dead. Where is she. Yeah wait where is Mae.

"Where is her body. What happened?" I asked.

"She's at the ministry. She stopped a killing curse that was meant for Sirius." Ron said.

"Are you sure, it could of been any spell." I spat

'No, Son. I watched it. She was hit." My dad sat down across from me, I shot up.

"NO! SHE CAN'T BE DEAD! MAE CANT BE DEAD." I'm angry, why did they leave her body, "You left her! She is alone! She could be so scared!!"

"Freddie." Said a calm voice, I looked over at who had my arm in their grasped, "she's gone." Emmeline said to me. I turned to face her.

"But she can't be. We were suppose to have our forever. She's Maeve. She's always okay." I sobbed.

"I know."

"She's gone?"

"Our girl is gone." She sobbed into my chest.

Then there was a crack.
