TODAY WAS DEFINITELY NOT A GOOD DAY FOR YOU
after the awkwardness that just happened while it was dinner time. You weren't close with all the hashira but Rengoku, and you'd think you'd be able to befriend Giyuu since he wasn't exactly super close with everyone either and you figured your similar experiences could lead to a better friendship.
Giyuu though didn't seem as interested as you in starting a friendship so you stuck with the only friend you had who was Rengoku.
You continued jogging away from the dining area, tears already fogged your vision but you didn't care and just kept running. You left after a little joke everyone made about you and Giyuu being the loners of the group and should maybe start dating which completely set you off. Their comments about you gave you even more anxiety as they went on and on about it.
Not only that but thinking of you dating Giyuu was completely out of the question since you had feelings towards Rengoku but you couldn't tell him that.
You kept on running and running, that you fell into a pond, a freezing, cold pond full of koi fish. "Gah!" Instantly you were reminded of your fear of the water, afraid of something that may grab you as you swam and so you resurfaced and treaded quickly to reach the edge of the pond, tears and freshwater mixing together on your skin. As you pulled yourself up from the pond, you could hear Rengoku's voice calling out to you in panic.
Panting heavily, you raised your head from the ground and looked up to see a worried Rengoku rushing toward you. You were tired from all the running, crying and almost drowning that you dropped your head back down on the grass.
Rengoku took your arms to help you up and lifted you so that you were sitting next to him. He didn't even care if his clothes got soaked too. "Are you alright?" He asked while allowing your body to lean onto his chest. Your eyes carefully opened when you looked up to see Rengoku looking down at you with worried eyes, his hand rested on your cheek to keep you focused on him. "I.." was all you could muster up to say after your eyes began to well up with tears once again.
Rengoku's eyebrows knitted together as he covered your shivering form with his haori to keep you warm.
"You aren't hurt are you?" His eyes scanned over you body to check for injuries but your knees pulled together and his eyes met yours again. Still you were calming yourself down and shaking the thoughts of water demons trying to reel you into the depths.
Rengoku didn't know what to do and kept silent, in hopes it would be enough to at least calm you down just a little.
After finally catching your breath, you immediately wrapped your arms around his waist. "I ran away because.. I'm tired of them saying stuff about me.." Rengoku listened deeply as you continued "they even said that Giyuu and I should be dating and maybe that would cure us from being so lonely all the time.." the last part came out as a whimper and you immediately brought your hand from Rengoku's torso to cover your face.
"I'm sick of it.."
Rengoku then ran his fingers down your wet hair to tuck them behind your shoulder. "Don't listen to them, (Y/n).. you aren't lonely remember? You have me." His usual booming voice softened into a quiet whisper as he spoke and you felt more at ease, lifting your face from your hands to stare deeply into his eyes.
Oh how beautifully they reflected in the moonlight, sending butterflies to your stomach. "R-Rengoku?" You croaked, slipping your hand on his cheek. His face flushed a deep red after he noticed you staring so lovingly at him.
"What is it (Y/n)-" before he could finish his sentence, you immediately pressed your lips against his. They were soft and quite plump, urging you to kiss him more but after feeling him not kiss you back, you pulled away. Instant regret was all you felt before he suddenly smiled softly at you and before you could say anything else, he immediately pulled you closer to him and reconnected his lips onto yours.
Your lips brushed against each other perfectly, his hand rested on your cheek while tilting his head slightly to deepen the kiss. It was as if all the terrible things that happened disappeared and now it was just the two of you.
After a few moments, you parted with giddy smiles and red cheeks. "I've been waiting for you to do that." Rengoku spoke with a light chuckle. You felt yourself tear your eyes away from his intimidating ones before looking back at him.
"Are you alright? Please tell me you didn't get any scratches.." he said but your legs folded under you and you leant your head on his shoulder, closing your eyes once more. "I can still feel the koi fish touching my legs.. it was horrible.." Rengoku let out another chuckle before hugging you closer to his chest. Finally, you were relaxed and felt more like yourself.
"We should leave in a while, you might get sick after being in the cold pond."
"Yeah, I agree but just gimme a sec.."
And just like that, there you two were - sitting underneath the moonlight, cold and wet but you were together and that was all that mattered.
