james when you showed up for his parents funeral, you easily offered your condolences, even though you never knew him. you knew his parents, of course, there was no other reason you'd be there if you didn't, but never had you met him. you'd placed a small paper in his hand and when he got a chance to sit down when he was back home, he realized it was a paper owl. bewitched to know exactly where to deliver a letter. he used to make them all the time as a kid. but his parents had always claimed they never knew how and that he must've just picked it up someone. he could've sworn nobody else knew about the paper owls, but he'd been wrong on a lot of things lately. he thought about your words for just a brief moment, allowed them to rattle around inside his mind.
"james is it? i'd just like to say i'm so sorry. i know how tough these things can be, and i know you don't know me, but if you ever need help or- or just to talk to someone, i'm here."
