If I see one more dialogue with only 'said' I will throw myself away, like for real. Being descriptive and adding descriptions is the art of writing and it creates a connection with the reader, and we want to know what the characters are feeling and doing. Some writers (including myself) find 'said' dead because the readers prefer a more descriptive language.
Now, don't get me wrong. You can use 'said' in many ways, but don't use it whenever someone is having a dialogue or doing something. Let's face it: 'said' is the simple way of writing and it doesn't really tell you anything except who it came from. There's no emotion, no describing, or any body language. It's just the speaker's identity that you're registering.
And before you call me a Mary Sue, I can tell you that I'm 100% guilty as well of using 'said' numerous times before, and there's a big chance you're feeling the same too. This has been discussed and talked about a lot in this community and there are tons of writing tips regarding the usage of 'said', and I also want to address this.
