Chapter 48

"No one has seen him, my queen." A guard tells Mal. She glanced up at him. "I want you to tell me when you've found him, not when you haven't." She tells the man. "B-but my q-queen-" The man stuttered. "Find him!" Mal yelled at him. The man ran off almost bumping into Hades. Hades walked towards the table. "No good news?" He asked her. Mal shook her head. "This isn't your fault." He tells her. Mal didn't look at her father. "It is. I shouldn't have gone out there for the rounds." She said. "You're the queen, you have to make sure the people are alright. You didn't know-" "I knew very well Audrey was after him. I knew very well she was watching us. I just let her take him. It's like leaving the cookie jar open right next to a toddler." Mal complained. "We all make mistakes," Hades tells her. Mal sighs and puts her hand in her hair. "This wasn't just a mistake, dad." She said. Hades sat next to her. "He's not dead." He tells her. "He might be," Mal said. Hades rubs her back gently. "Just try to stay positive. For all we know, he woke up and he's going for a walk. Maybe he doesn't want to be found." Hades tells his daughter. The purple-haired girl puts her face in her hands. "I just don't know what to do anymore. What does Audrey want?" She questioned. Hades leans back in his chair. "Well, you stole her boyfriend from her-" "I didn't do it on purpose...well not entirely." Mal interrupted her father. Hades holds up one of his hands. "Let me finish," he tells her, "You stole Ben, so she steals Carlos. You spelled Ben, she spells Carlos. Mally, she's giving you a taste of your own medicine." Hades tells his daughter. Mal groaned. "I knew that, but there is something different. I spelled Ben to get to the wand, she has spelled him to become some sort of evil maniac." Mal explained. "What do you mean?" Hades asked her. "Audrey used the spell my mother used on me. She has turned Carlos evil." She tells her father. "I thought we destroyed that curse," Hades said. "I thought so too, but it isn't. Audrey has the spell and she might use it on other people as well." She tells him. The former God of the underworld rubs his chin. "Let's focus on finding Carlos first. We'll worry about the rest later." Hades said. He glanced at Mal and didn't see much hope in her eyes. "Hey, we'll find him. I promise." Hades tells her. Mal nodded and hugged her father. "Thanks, Dad." She whispered. Hades smiled and kissed the top of her head.
Their father-daughter moment was interrupted by a guard walking in. "My queen, we have found someone." He said. Mal shot up. "Well, what are you waiting for? Bring him here!" Mal exclaimed. Within two seconds, a man was standing in front of Mal. Not the person she had hoped for. "Mr. Smee, what a surprise," Mal said. The man smiled at her. "My Queen, I have come to ask you for a favor. I am looking for my son." The man tells her. "Your son?" Mal questioned. "Yes, my son, Carlos De Vil." He said.
