Chapter 4: Awkward Dinner

"H..hi." I slowly placed my hand in his and he shakes it firmly.

"So Katherine, do you like your room? We can make some changes if you want to."

"No its perfect. Thank you. But everything is really...expensive. I mean I'm gretful to you but you didn't had to spend all these...money and time on me. I would be fine."

"Its not a big deal Katherine. Besides everything was done by an interior designer and our personal shopper did all the shopping and money is not an issue you don't have to worry about it."

"Okay then...you can call me Kat I mean Katherine can be a little mouthful."

"I prefer Katherine." Ouch.

"Um..okay"

"So I have some things to go over with you. We have some rules here in the family. Nothing too major just how to behave and all. We all expect you to be on your best behavior. We do not allow attitude or back talking or cussing. Always pay attention to what your brothers say. Do as you ard told by them. Its gor your own safety. No leaving the estate without permission at all. Always pick up our calls. And under no conditions are boyfriends allowed. You can be friends with them but you need our approval. We do room checks once in a while. We try to have breakfast and dinner together. No tardiness or laziness in studies. I read your file and I was impressed you are pretty much great at studies I want you to maintain that. If you are facing any troubles in any aspects come to us we will help you. This file has information about your new school. You will be going to Swords Academy along with the twins. It's a private and prestigious school. So we expect you to behave accordingly. This has all the information. You have to fill out a few forms. Once you are done bring them over to me signing. We dont have a lot of staff. A few bodyguards, a cook and 2 cleaning ladies. You have any questions?"

"Umm..I I uh." Comon Kat you don't have to show your lack of confidence in each and every sentence.

"I suppose not. There is a Mac Book and iPhone in the drawer next to your bed. Set them up. And I'll see you at dinner." With that he left me. I saw his retrieving form.

Conversation with Alexander was not a welcome speech. It was like a buisness meeting where the other party doesn't really has a say. If you haven't figured it out already the other party her was well me. Alexander was cold, distinct and kind of rude. His eyes didn't show any emotion of disgust or hatred nor did they show any form of happiness. They were just cold.

It was still an hour left for dinner. I decided to spend it by exploring my new room and setting up my mac book and phone. I am good at tech stuff. It was 6:55PM now and I didn't wanted to be late for my first dinner here. So I went outside and saw Elsa approaching me probably to get me to the dinning area.

I thought I would be early but when I entered the dinning area I saw 6 pairs of eyes similar to mine starring at me. Some boring holes in me while some other held a curious look. They quickly glanced away. This is gonna be a hell of a dinner.

I took my seat next to the head of the table where Alexander sat in all his glory. I was really uncomfortable around him.

A plump lady in her mid forties approached the table. I assumed she was the chef.

"Hello Miss Katherine. I'm Mrs.Robins, the chef. I hope you like Carbonara." She said serving my plate with a little pasta.

"I do. Thank you."

"Would like some more?"

"No this will suffice. Thank you."

She went around and served everyone else. I mumbled a small thank you to God. I was always grateful to God for food. I never knew if I would be able to have food the next day. Mom never left any groceries at home to cook for myself. I had gone even 2 full days with just water. My brothers seemed surprised on my action while two of them just scoffed.

"So brothers introduce yourselves to the newest addition to the family." Alexander announced.

"Do we seriously have to do this shit? I dont even want to bother myself by introducing myself to her." One of them said. He was one of the twins I assumed. I recognized his voice. He was the one who was very happy on my arrival. Note the sarcasm. I quickly looked down .

"I will not repeat myself Silas." Oh so his name was silas.

"Hello Katherine. I'm Hayden. I'm 26. In your second brother. Nice to meet you."

"Ni..nice to meet you too." I said in a low voice all the while gripping my fork tightly hoping it could ease my tension.

"Leo?" Said Hayden.

"Argh. Leonardo. 24." He said in an irritated voice. I couldn't help but notice the tattoos on his arms. They were beautifully done. I would love to draw them in my sketchbook if he allows. But assuming from his behavior that was never gonna happen.

"Hi Katherine. I'm Nate the charming one. I'm 21. I'm studying MBA. Nice to meet you." I smiled a little on his remarks.

"Its nice to meet you too." I replied quickly. I felt...nice after a very long time.

"I'm sebastian and that's my twin silas. We are 17. He is older." He said quickly trying to save himself from his elder twins wrath.

"Katherine introduce yourself." Said Alexander.

"But dont they already know my name." I said slowly leaning towards him.

Hayden smiled. He had a beautiful smile. There was no doubt about it that my brothers had won the gene pool. They had the best features. I wonder what my father looked like. I felt like asking about him.

"Umm..Alexander. Where is our Father?" On listening to my question the whole table fell silent. I realized immediately that I had asked the wrong question.

" I'm sorry did I ask something wrong. I'm sorry i didn't mean to hurt anyone. " I was very nervous about what my dangerous looking brothers could do to me. They wouldn't hurt me or would they.

"He is..away at the moment Katherine." Alexander answered.

"Oh. Okay." See Katherine even your own father isnt intrested in you. Will you ever be something else than a disappointment?

Silas and sebastian were joking internally. I guess about me as they threw me glances once a while. I figured out it was my que to leave.

"I'm done. May I be excused?" I said looking up from my plate.

"Katherine you barely ate. Have some more." Hayden said looking at me.

"I'm not a really heavy eater. Besides I'm a bit tired too. The flight was long."

"I'm excusing you this one time. But you are very thin. You need to gain more weight. I cant have you falling sick on me every other day." Alexander said in a hurtful manner. Tears were forming in my eyes. But I couldn't break down in front of them. They will see me as a weakling and toss me out of the window like the garbage I am.

"Dont worry. I wont be a burden on you." With that I stood up took my plate and went towards the kitchen. On exiting I heard something.

"There's a better way to tell her that." I figured it was Nate from the voice.

"Oh common Nate. Dont you get it? She's a little attention seeking who-"
Whore. He meant whore.

"Enough! None of you get to tell me what to do." I couldn't hear anything further as I had already exited.

I saw Mrs.Robins in the kitchen.

"Mrs.Robins the food was delicious. Thank you very much."

"Its my duty miss Katherine." She said with a genuine smile.

I remembered my way to my bedroom and I quickly headed towards it.

To conclude my first dinner with my 'family' was very awkward.

And I had a feeling that there were many more to come.
