july 3rd russian underground base - hawkins memorial hospital
robin, slater, erica, dustin and steve were still gaping through the doors at the machine which was keeping the gate open.
the three boys shared a look before muttering the same thing: "the gate."
"come on." steve stood up and lead them back downs the stairs and into the comma room they were previously in.
"i don't understand." robin shook her head, "you've seen this before?"
"not exactly." steve sighed.
"then what, exactly?" robin challenged the older boy.
"well, a friend of ours has." slater explained.
"and what friend?"
dustin stopped slater from answering her question, "all you need to know is it's bad."
"it's really bad."
"extremely bad." slater chimed, trying to emphasise how significant it was.
"like, end-of-the-human-race-as-we-know-it kind of bad." dustin rambled.
"and you know about this how?" robin raised her brow.
"well, i just said - a friend of ours." slater repeated himself.
"oh i heard, you never clarified who." robin told him.
"um, steve?" erica spoke up, saving slater from speaking "where's your russian friend?"
she caught their attention and they all looked to the spot where steve had left the unconscious russian worker, but he was gone.
"oh no."
the alarm started blaring, the five now knew they were in trouble - huge trouble.
"shit." steve swore. he ran over and opened the door, just for him to see a whole group of russians surrounding the man he knocked out, and the group didn't look pleased.
the men glanced up and witnessed steve just gawking at them.
"halt! halt!" a soilder detonated while pointing at the harrington boy.
"shit." steve banged the door sealed, "go, go, go, go, go!"
"shit."
they broke into a sprint and began travelling in the other direction.
"move! let's move!" steve yelled before opening a door for them to run into.
unfortunately, the door he opened happened to be the one leading to the control room.
