"You see, beautiful...this is our true nature...and you'll be joining us soon."
Joining us soon, joining us soon. David's voice rung in Michaela's ears as the four men, no vampires, surrounded the terrified girl on her knees. Their faces contorted into monsters, their long sharp nails protruding from their fingertips, their fangs bared in crooked smiles, it was all becoming clear for her. This was their plan; killing her in the cave and leaving her body for her devastated family to find. Michaela's knees wobbled as she stood, whimpering and gasping for the last few breaths that tore out of her throat. However, as soon as she stood, David was in front of her, reaching out a hand for her to grab. Swaying, she moaned as her languid body hit his chest, weak and overwhelmed from everything that happened in the evening. She looked into David's eyes, anticipating the kill, instead a soft caress of two fingers. Paul, Dwayne, and Marko watched as David held her in his arms, the poor woman unable to stand.
"Easy, Mikey," muttered David. "You're all right. Come here."
"You are real," Michaela's voice was high. "You're vampires."
"We are," Marko chimed in over David.
He tried to walk over, but Michaela yelped and pried herself free of David's grip, backing away from the four bikers. Her eyes were wide and her pupils dilated, seemingly unable to trust Marko's word. David frowned and walked in front of the gang, halting when he saw how frozen she was. Her skin paled, her eyes were glassy, and her jaw slacked. She was petrified of them, of him. The man she trusted to take her on a ride of her lifetime, the man who fed and welcomed her into his home, the man she almost danced with at the Tim Cappello concert, him, David. It was not the same one who showed her a good time, he was a monster. Tears flooded Michaela's vision and soaked her cheeks, shaking her head as she held onto the wall.
"No, no!" she sobbed. "I...I don't want to die!"
"Relax, Mikey," Paul walked over to her. "We're not going to kill you. It's not why you're here."
"You're not?" Michaela wiped her eyes with the backs of her handsand quietened. "But you..."
"That's enough, everyone!" David ordered, causing the group to turn to him. David growled and walked past his gang to Michaela, staring down at her the same night they met in the pet store. His blue eyes were soft and gentle, like the time he made a visit to her bedroom.
"Boys, instead of talking about our nature...why don't we show her?"

Michaela and David walked to the edge of the cliff while Paul, Dwayne, and Marko pulled up behind them on their motorcycles. Michaela gasped gulped as the hurtling of waves against rock could be heard, ocean air caressing her face with a light sprinkle of saltwater. Her bare feet curled as she leaned over a bit, her heart drumming against her ribcage as she saw the jagged, sharp drop. Why were his friends riding motorcycles and they weren't? David simpered and wrapped one of his gloved hands around her, tugging her against his chest in a light and tender embrace.
